Sorry YET AGAIN for the massive delays, but reality has just been too stressful to work with. However, I'm still going to force myself to write for the sake of giving a decent Christmas gift to all the fans of this story ^^)
Part 58
>A & B: Introduce Tilvamido to... everyone!
Despite the humiliation that you've just gone through that was mostly his fault- though you probably played some... small... ish part of it- you can't find a good enough reason to not trust this new apparent ally. Sure, he had worked for the Canids for awhile, and he basically just played pictionary with your brain, and he nearly killed you a couple of times... and he threatened your parents... and he helped kill a decent number of Hunters over a shiny rock. But still! Just the fact that he had actually shown his face, given his name and renounced his affiliation with the Canids was a good step in the right direction. You decide that it might be best to share the information with your friends and the Council before he gets found out and they reject him before he can even explain anything.
You thank him for the embarrassing bit of assistance that he had given you with drying your loincloth, and share your decision with him.
"Please come with me. If you're really on our side, we should tell the Council so."
He looks a little hesitant at the suggestion.
"I'm not certain that would be a good idea. I would agree, but your parents both have seen me and will recognize the cloak."
That was true enough, they would likely panic and order Tilva arrested or even executed the moment they walked into the building. But that was a risk they would have to take, as there was no way he could help them effectively without informing everybody of his change of heart.
"How do you expect to help us if we end up attacking you when the Canids come? That would just make it much harder on you. Come on."
The green-cloaked Felinid hesitates again as you head to the edge of the roof, but finally relents and follows you back down to the open streets. You lead the way to the marketplace, ignoring the villagers gawking at the first white-furred creature that they had ever seen. In your mind, you knew that his fur color had nothing to do with age, as even the oldest cat you knew- Mora- had only moderately graying fur, and this man was only half her age. More likely, his fur was an effect of one of the images he had planted in your memories- the white-covered Canid city. The flecks of frozen rain, what you somehow knew to call "snow," had wiped almost everything of its color, and probably had something to do with Tilva's fur lacking any color of its own. As you both pass more and more people, you realize that some of the Hunters had gathered into pairs and were setting up large pyres at some of the intersections. You could only imagine that they were following Phiodel's earlier advice to deter the Yaggan.
Finally, you both make it to the busy marketplace as the shops start getting ready to close for the night. Owners stood small banners in front of their stalls and tables, marking that no more villagers would be allowed to get in the lineup. Any villagers that are not in a queue start to head home or go into nearby taverns to get drunk, and the Felinids still in line at the various shopping stalls join them one at a time as they get served. You and Tilvamido walk past it all and make your way up the steps to the Council building. Unexpectedly, however, a Huntress guard at the top of the steps holds up a paw as you approach.
"Stop, Anamaki. Who is this?"
You only take a second to consider the answer as you stand a few feet in front of- and below- the guard, hoping that she will not question Tilva's presence too much.
"A friend. We need to speak to the Council- most especially my parents."
Her expression doesn't drop, and neither does her stance.
"They are in a special meeting right now. You would be allowed in, and in fact your presence is highly requested. But it is not for his ears."
Your ears fold back slightly, but you quickly decide that it won't make much difference as long as you can convince your parents that you need to bring someone else into whatever conversation is going on. You nod to Tilva and to the guard, who steps to the side to allow you into the structure. You step inside, allowing the door to close behind you, and walk to the center table, where the Council members are bickering with each other. Surprisingly, all three of your friends are there as well, remaining completely silent. After a minute, your Father finally notices you and speaks up.
"Ah, Anamaki is finally here. Perhaps now we can discuss this with a little more order."
This confuses you for a moment, but you remain silent for the moment as another Council member, Daruum, speaks out.
"Order be damned, our village, our people and our entire way of life are in danger. I know what the scouts told me."
Hoka was the next to speak.
"What in Nanako's name are you even sending our valuable Hunters out there for anyway? Two entire days of travel, and they just 'stumble' upon countless Canids heading straight at us? What aren't you telling us?"
The muscled Hunter leader practically rippled with anger.
"Shut your mouth, newblood. You may be a Council member, but you have not been one long enough to analyze our intentions."
Your mother suddenly swooped into the conversation with a rather audible response.
"Daruum, you will not threaten Councilor Hoka! This is a space for established leaders and respect for that leadership. Seniority has no weight here... and I for one wish to continue this line of thought. Why would our defenders and gathers be heading out into the jungle for such long periods that they cannot perform their actual duties?"
Daruum slowly seemed to relax, but he was still clearly irritated.
"Because doing so has allowed us to finally locate the Canid village. We found it, and we can attack."
"Not according to you and your claims that their army outnumbers our entire population three to one. But we need to get back on the original topic. My daughter is finally here, and we can- if she allows us- have her help."
Your Father's words catch your attention once again.
"Ana, we have had a long and relatively painful discussion... and have decided that we need your magical talents. Your ability to cast spells as the Canids do is our last reasonable hope for our people."
You deeply consider it, of course, but you also decide that now is the time to bring in Tilva. You ask to bring a friend into the chamber, and both of your parents nod. You head back to the door and open it, telling the guard outside that the green-cloaked Felinid is allowed in. She peeks through the door at the Council members, and your Father gives an affirmative wave, prompting her to stand aside as Tilva walks in.
The moment that everybody sees the green cloak tied around the white-furred warriors' neck, all hell breaks loose. Your Father stands and roars "WHAT IS THIS!?" Phio, Dorza and Dorze all stand and pull their weapons out, your Mother and half of the council simply sink into their seats. Daruum was the only one to actually ignore it, as though he didn't know what was going on. You hold your paws out toward the entire table as you stand between everyone there and Tilva.
"Wait, wait, wait!! He's not here to harm anybody! He's done helping the Canids!"
"Sweetie, get away from him!"
"No!"
Well, you have now officially disobeyed your Father for the first time since you were a kitten. Phio's voice was the next to try to bring you away.
"Ana, he's the enemy! Get out of my way!"
You again ignore the command. You have to try to think of something to convince them.
