Petaluma Wildlife Museum RAT ABUSE - Rats need YOUR HELP!
So after many months of effort finally a petition describing the abuses of the Petaluma Wildlife Museum in their feeder rat program reached over 1700 signatures and grabbed the attention of local news programs. The petition, if you would like to see it, is here: https://www.change.org/petitions/tr.....ildlife-museum (warning: contains links to images and videos of rats being crushed, drowned, smashed against rocks, etc).
In a nutshell, Petaluma Wildlife Museum is an after-school program for high school students that cares for and displays reptiles. They also have a rat breeding program, consisting of dumbo rats, where the rats are kept in terrible conditions and not euthanized humanely (according to state law rats must be euthanized by C02).
When the petition finally received media attention, the museum decided to stop its rat breeding program.
So right now, there are 60 DUMBO RATS available for rescue in Petaluma, California. Please spread the word, because these rats will likely BE EUTHANIZED by the end of the week.
You can contact the rescuer at this number to inquire about available rats: (707) 775 - 9069
OR you can donate towards the adoption of these rats here: http://www.gofundme.com/9d7q48
Thank you! AND PLEASE REPOST! :)

Just hearing about it makes me tear up....
I have to go snuggle my fuzzbutts now...
I'm so glad this was brought to the media. No animal deserves this treatment....those poor babies...
I'm assuming the euthanasia at the end of the week will be by C02.
The organization is called Rattie Ratz. You can contact them at: (415) 340-1896

Hope this helps, and best of luck! I hope they'll be able to get all the help they need.
I live about 20 minutes north of Petaluma and somehow I have never even heard of this Wildlife Museum place, I'll definitely need to look into this whole issue. I used to keep rats, but sadly I just don't have the space anymore for little fuzzy friends. Plus I now have 9 snakes, and having rodent smell wafting around would surely put them into feeding mode all the time.
If the rats must be euthanized by the end of the week, hopefully it'll be done humanely.
