Why would people say that when they dont mean it? I dont understand people sometimes...

Because they think they mean it.

But the full statement shouldn't be "-about anything" or "-whenever you need me" as much as it should be "-if I have the time."

I wouldn't call it an outright lie when people say that, but the alternative interpretation implies a disconnect from reality -- that they treat whatever wireless relationships they have the same way they would treat villagers in an Animal Crossing game. Which, honestly, might be worse.

It feels good to lie in the moment. You get the dopamine rush of feeling like you're helpful without having to commit to anything.

Let me rephrase the statement, then, and say "You can always talk to somebody."

I've been seeing a lot of journals like this as of late. So feel free to vent in your journals however you need to; chances are good that somebody out there is going through something similar. Worst case scenario: Neither of you have any clue whatsoever how to deal with it, but at least then you know you're not alone and can feel a little more normal about it.
