Pandemic and Protests
Posted 5 years agoWith the global pandemic underway, it will of course be some time before we are able to host meet-ups again. I hope everyone is staying as healthy and safe as you are able.
More urgently, just a few hours ago the Black Lives Matter protest downtown turned really bad when the police showed up in riot gear to torment and incite the crowd. I don't know if anyone has numbers yet, but a whole lot of people are going to need help dealing with the fallout from this.
In the immediate term, I recommend donating to the Massachusetts Bail Fund, which helps provide bail so people aren't stuck in jail for however long it takes their case to go to court. Nobody deserves to have their lives ruined just because they couldn't afford bail.
You can make a donation through their website here: https://www.massbailfund.org/donate.html
If you do so, I'll buy your lunch next time we're able to meet again.
In the coming days, weeks and months, we are all going to need to work to help heal, protect, and improve our communities. Check in on your friends and neighbors. Give the support you can wherever it is needed. Figure out what you can do to fight for the broader communities you care about.
A lot of stuff is really hard right now, and it will continue to be so for some time yet. Let's try to make it out the other side of this better than we started.

Sunday March 8 Furry Luncheon
Posted 5 years agoWhen: Every second Sunday of the month, at 1:00 PM. This month's is on March 8.
Where: Theo's Cozy Corner, 162 Salem St in Boston's North End. Closest T stop is Haymarket on the Orange and Green lines.
What: Breakfast/brunch/diner food! It's a cash-only restaurant, so make sure to hit up an ATM on the way.
We'll loiter outside from 12:45 to 1, and once we think we've got everyone we'll head in. The place is a bit small, so seating might be an adventure, but I believe in us.
Let's not perplex hapless waitstaff and restaurant goers too badly. Badges and small accessories can be helpful for finding each other, but please no fursuits, faux fur spoils the broth.
The meet aims to be a clean-rated event, though for legal/liability reasons we must insist everyone be at least 18.
We have a Telegram group chat, which is the best way to coordinate with the group: https://t.me/joinchat/DMYhBxENA1gNCuLcn5YGdA
For people who like to plan ahead, next month's meet will be on Sunday April 19, since the regular Sunday will be Easter.

Sunday December 8 Furry Luncheon
Posted 5 years agoWhen: Every second Sunday of the month, at 1:00 PM. This month's is on December 8. Come join us in not being at MFF!
Where: 88 Food Connection at 17 Brighton Ave, Allston. It's a food court attached to the Hong Kong Supermarket. Right next to the Packards Corner stop on the B branch of the green line.
What: A selection of Asian offerings! Sushi, pho, noodles, Indian, bubble tea, etc.
We'll grab a cluster of tables and hang out for however long we're in the mood. Look for the hats covered in enamel pins, or poke us on the telegram group if you don't see us.
The meet is not typically a fursuiting meet, but since this month we're just at a food court, go ahead and bring whatever you'd like to wear around. If people want to suit up and wander and perplex the locals, I'll bring a camera. Carry your own bins though.

The meet aims to be a clean-rated event, though for legal/liability reasons we must insist everyone be at least 18.
Let's not perplex hapless waitstaff and restaurant goers too badly. Badges and small accessories can be helpful for finding each other, but please no fursuits, that would be awkward.

Sunday October 13 Furry Luncheon
Posted 5 years agoWhen: Every second Sunday of the month, at 1:00 PM. This month's is on October 13.
Where: Hei La Moon at 88 Beach St in downtown Boston. It's a classic dim sum place.
It’s in between the South Station and Chinatown T stops. If you're driving into Boston, good luck.
The sidewalk abutting the restaurant is fairly constrained, so let's meet up at the Chinatown Gate 1 block west, along the Greenway. We'll start gathering around 12:45 and head over a few minutes after 1PM once we think we've got everybody.
What: Dim sum is a Chinese banquet hall brunch style of meal. Instead of ordering off a menu, servers push carts laden with small plates from table to table, and you grab what looks interesting and share around the table. Dishes tend towards assorted dumplings, plus pork buns, rice cakes, and some less familiar things like watermelon soup, grass jellies and red bean pastes.
It's generally fairly easy to keep vegetarian at dim sum, but because of language barriers and how ordering works, more stringent dietary restrictions are trickier to maintain. Be forewarned.
What the bill comes to depends on how much everyone eats, it's best to expect somewhere in the range of $20-30 per person. Bringing cash will be helpful.
The meet aims to be a clean-rated event, though for legal/liability reasons we must insist everyone be at least 18.

Sunday September 8 Furry Luncheon
Posted 5 years agoWhen:
Every second Sunday of the month, at 1:00 PM. This month's is on September 8.
Where:
The Friendly Toast in Cambridge
It's in the rear portion of the One Kendall Square plaza. There's construction currently happening on the building, but the restaurant is still there.
It’s a moderate walk from the Kendall T stop on the Red Line (Google estimates 10 minutes on foot), and if you're driving in there is a parking lot a block North of the restaurant.
Please RSVP here or in the Telegram channel, as the restaurant is typically fairly busy in the brunch time period, and we'll want to make a reservation. We'll meet up in the small rear portion of the plaza that the restaurant opens into, where there are some tables and chairs.
The restaurant serves classic diner fare with a hipster flair. They do very good pancakes, and they've got funky sandwiches. They have good vegan and gluten-free options. Their cocktails are also quite good, if that's the sort of brunch you like. You can check their online menu here: https://thefriendlytoast.com/menu/

Sunday August 4 Furry Luncheon (LOCATION+DATE CHANGE!)
Posted 5 years agoWhen:
Neither of the regular organizers can make it to the regular date, so we're doing an alternate date:
This coming Sunday, August 4, at 1 PM.
Also, we decided to try meeting at different restaurants!
Where:
Mary Chung's, a long-standing Sichuan Chinese restaurant in Central Square, at 464 Massachusetts Ave.
We'll gather outside on the sidewalk (try to look like you're looking for people!) and head inside when we think we're ready.
It’s a short walk from the Central Square T stop, on the Red Line. If you're coming in from out of town I recommend parking at Alewife and T-ing in, but alternately, metered parking in Cambridge is generally free on Sundays, so you should be able to find parking in the area.
Their food is classic Sichuan Chinese fare, and is best enjoyed family-style, sharing the main dishes around the table. Watch out for their dumpling sauce, it is Quite Spicy. Full range of meat and vegetarian options are available, you can check their menu at http://places.singleplatform.com/ma.....estaurant/menu
Expect the tab to come out in the $15-$20 range per person, be prepared to tip 20% as is standard at sit-down restaurants. Bringing cash will make things simpler for everyone.
The meet aims to be a clean-rated event, though for legal/liability reasons we must ask everyone be at least 18.
We do have a Telegram group chat, if you would like to take part in that: https://t.me/joinchat/DMYhBxENA1gNCuLcn5YGdA

September Boston Area Furry Luncheon
Posted 6 years agoNEW!
We have a Telegram Group!
https://t.me/joinchat/DMYhBxENA1gNCuLcn5YGdA
Event:
Our monthly Boston Area Furry Luncheon
When:
Every second Sunday of each month, at 1:00 PM.
The next luncheon will be held on
Sunday, September 9, 2018
For those of you who need a month’s notice in order to plan ahead better or request time off from work, the following luncheon will be held on:
Sunday, October 14, 2018
Where:
The 99 in Chalestown
29-31 Austin Street; Charlestown, MA 02129-3502
Phone: (617) 242-8999 .
It’s a short walk from the Community College T stop, on the Orange Line, and there is plenty of free parking. The prices for meals are reasonable. Finally, there’s free popcorn for those of you who can’t afford a full meal and vegetarian options for us herbivores. Just ask the wait staff. ^!^
For more details, you can go to: http://www.99restaurants.com/ .
(Sorry to say it, but we’ve got to have) Rules:
We don’t need to make a reservation, thus there is no need to RSVP (and hardly anyone ever does). Just simply show up.
No one under the age of 18 will be admitted. Sorry, but I feel that I must do this in order to cover my own tail.
Note: It is not essential, but I’m encouraging each and every one of us to tip. This will ensure that we maintain a good relationship with the staff. The minimum wage for “tipped services” is about half that of other forms of employment. Therefore, most waitstaff rely heavily on tips, as their source of income. An average tip would be between 15% and 20% of the total cost of your meal. If you need any help calculating this amount, please let us know. Also, I can teach short-cuts for doing this in one’s head. ^!^

Event:
Our monthly Boston Area Furry Luncheon
When:
Every second Sunday of each month, at 1:00 PM.
The next luncheon will be held on
Sunday, July 8, 2018
For those of you who need a month’s notice in order to plan ahead better or request time off from work, the following luncheon will be held on:
Sunday, August 12, 2018

Our monthly Boston Area Furry Luncheon
When:
Every second Sunday of each month, at 1:00 PM.
The next luncheon will be held on
Sunday, July 9, 2017
For those of you who need a month’s notice, the following luncheon will be held on:
Sunday, August 13, 2017
Luncheon Update: Daylight Savings Time
Posted 8 years agoFor anyone that may be attending the Boston Area Furry Luncheon, Daylight Savings time almost literally snuck up on me last year.
The Lucheon is set to start an hour from now. It may be wise for us to move the time back to 2:00, just in case. That seems like the time that I might show up, if I do at all. It all depends on a situation that I am working to resolve right now.
