21st Hatchday, College, and an art-study group on Skype
Posted 11 years agoUgh, 21, and all that.
Hope you're all doing alright, I'm actually having a blast in my Automotive classes, so some things are looking up.
Don't forget, I'm pretty active on Skype and open to discussion.
Speaking of which, I joined a little art-based study group a little while ago that branched off of Crimson Daggers.
If you're looking to improve, and you are struggling to find a mentor or just people to help out with, or need critiques, you can just let me know [ Enigmasflame ] and I'll add you to the group.
There's a mixture of artists and vary in ability level, a lot of beginners and hobbyists, some are decent, a couple of freelancers, and maybe one or two people that have done industry-level work, so there's no reason to feel intimidated, they're not elitist by any means.

Posted 12 years agoSorry for not posting anything for a bit, just been lurking and doing my best keeping up in college, gonna be testing streams and hopefully resume my backlog of requests. If you wanna keep in touch I'm very active on Skype.
About Quitters... (Rant Journal, nothing important)
Posted 12 years ago(Rant journal)
This is directed towards those artists who just drop off the face of the earth any time they run into someone who doesn't worship them or even their work. I'm not gonna mention anyone specific, there's already been a few big ones that have left within the past two weeks.
In the solid year or so I've had a profile here, I must've seen a good 20 or so from the site alone just vanish, unable to find them, I keep a pretty long list of art boards that I look through, so I do mean it when I say they vanish.
I have just two words: fuck you.
I would kill others if it meant to just be even a tenth as good, but you pack up and leave the moment someone criticizes you, OH NOES someone trolls you! Quick! Delete absolutely everything off your profile, offering no explanation in the process quick! Abandon ship!!!
"But but! It's their choice!"
Yeah, but the sad reality is, you'll never make it in the industry like that, when you get slammed by people who actually know their stuff, some of which whom weren't geniuses at birth mind you. You try submitting your work to an employer, art director whoever, all of the sudden, it's not your choice if you're gonna be working for them. I admire the artists for their work, not for being a pansy.
Please don't try bringing up freelancing as a viable option, I'm flooded by journals every fucking day of people asking for donations because they didn't have a fall-back plan and risk getting evicted or something crazy thinking they could crank out batch after batch of $10 commissions.
Oh, and to the 'pro's' who repost all of their work ten times a week for extra views and watchers, you're not doing yourself any favors, you're certainly not improving clearly enough, and sorry to say, but you're not THAT good.
No matter, I'll be trucking along and noodling slowly but surely, I might slow down, but I don't quit, as much as I think about it.
Have a nice day.

I got a notification from paypal saying this.
"The buyer has filed a chargeback with his or her credit card company stating that the buyer did not authorize the payment.
The credit card company has reversed the payment, and we've placed a temporary hold on the funds while we review this case. I thought to actually consider this guy a friend.
but I'm not fucking stupid. I have now infromation from several people this is happened to in the past on SEPRATE occasions. and how he's not perma banned from here/paypal i'm not sure why. but being 'hacked' wouldn't happen multiple times right around the end of the god damned month when funds are tight.
what the fuck hacker, gets in some ones paypal just to issue refunds on previous transactions done, huh? people hack accounts to steal the money out of them. not issue refunds to things already gone and spent.
not to mention you physically have to contact your bank/card holder to issue returned funs for 'items not recived'
so yeah, I don't want to fuckin hear it. Go fuck yourself dude. -ban-

Weasyl Invites available
Posted 12 years agoApparently I can send invites now, from what I understood you can send up to 10 invites but correct me if I'm wrong.
If you've been wanting one, just note me your E-mail.
If you have any Nabyn invites, I'll save an invite for you, I only need one obviously.

Feedback?
Posted 13 years agoIt's high time for a little self-reflection, and I've just been curious to what people think.
Aside from requests, and trades, what do you guys believe I should do more of?
What do you believe I'm weakest at or believe I struggle with the most?
What do you see in my work that makes you a fan?
Feel free to add anything you feel I should know, but those would be the big three, I just ask that if you respond, be honest.

I'm standing at a crossroad, but...
Posted 13 years ago[This is a really long journal, scroll past this mess if you just simply want to see something motivating]
I've really been frustrated with how I've been progressing. Had a long talk with my dad about how things are going, then he brings up my drawings. He drew a bit in his teens, just didn't keep up after that.
He goes on "I love the shit you're drawing, you got the talent, I see it, you can put pen to paper, you can 'visualize and attack' so to say, I'm just concerned because I don't see you drawing cars. Granted, your space marines and the alien drawings [so he did see some furry stuff, lol] are fantastic, I've just been thinking you're out of touch with cars. If you're still into it, take that passion and put it towards the cars, I know you can do it."
I asked him if he was just trying to motivate me again, "well, you're not doing stick figures anymore :)", he always had a way of putting things in a positive light in the simplest ways.
I've wanted to set foot into the Auto Industry since middle school [class of 2010 in HS], Concept Art seemed interesting, but it is perhaps the most competitive field in existence. I was always interested in how cars worked, why it worked, and how to make it look good, but still functional, so I set my sight on the Industrial Design part of it.
You know how they say "actions speak louder than words", and I guess that's the case here.
You won't hear this often from me, I'm the kind of guy who feels the need to simply know, to have an answer, or to demand answers when it's necessary, I like to assert any form of independence at any given opportunity...but for once, I'm not 100% sure what I want to do.
On one hand, I want to create designs for cars, I want to solve problems related to them, build them, modify them, fix them, and I know if I can afford to get into a trade school, I'll be ecastic, I'll be savvy, I'll be headed in the right direction and exactly where I want to go.
On the other hand, I'm loving this Illustration stuff and a bunch of Concept Art, Anthro Art, whatever, even if I'm a scrub at it I do enjoy it, I just don't have any hope whatsoever of getting anywhere let alone breaking into that industry if I headed in that direction.
Biggest problem, and easily the biggest decision in my entire life, if I want to head into trade school, my dad is willing to re-enlist (he's in the Army), if he does, then trade school will be paid off. If I don't, and just end up taking a few online classes here and there, we're getting out at the end of his contract, possibly even move out of the country at that point.
He doesn't care if I have to take up a big loan, he's willing to help pay it off either way. Just don't want to regret this decision. Will take a break soon and think things over.
Now for a healthy dose of inspiration, to whoever needs it~
I myself figured art was a talent or gift you needed, or there was a certain wizard formula to it, if you didn't have it or didn't know about it, too damn bad, if you did, you're in the clear. The first time I saw the 'Art Progress' meme on dA, I was shocked, then when I looked at a certain thread on ConceptArt, it changed everything.
I now make it a daily ritual to look at MindCandyMan's thread (conceptart.org) to remind me of how wrong I was and what making progress is all about. Hope you find this as inspirational as I did.
If you have an artist in mind that you'd like to see a progression of, let me know.

Requests Status - Restricted (Also, 'ask me anything' time)
Posted 13 years agoJust to keep you posted, since I gotta play some serious catch up on requests, and taking them on continuously just isn't working out.
Once I'm caught up I'll only have a few slots and take up a few requests at a time (5-7 slots at most), especially since I don't have remotely as much free time as before. I'll be plugging away at them whenever I can though.
Oh, and if you've ever been curious about me, or what I know or believe, ask away, although I wouldn't mind getting to know you a little better as well ;), especially if you have a request.
By the way, would anyone by any chance have a .PDF of 'Art & Fear: Observations On the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking' by David Bayles and Ted Orland?
