My favorite charity marathon is back for its 5th year, starting tonight! Grab your wallets and get ready to geek out for the children! There are some AMAZING things up for auction this year, which you should totally check out even if you know you won't be able to afford them. I don't even play M:tG and those foil Innistrad uncut sheets are making me drool! Not to mention the Portal sushi set, or that huge lot of Atlus goodies, or that impossibly awesome steampunk claw-hand, or--you know what? Just go check it out for yourself.

Posted 13 years agoMost of my town is still without power from that dumb October Snowpocalypse. They only JUST cleared the trees off my road today (we don't have power, but we have a generator because this happens every fucking year now, fuck you PSNH for putting us off till last every time). Needless to say, nobody around here (myself included) was in much of a mood to "celebrate" on Monday.
Fortunately, my town moved Trick or Treating hours to this coming Sunday. Also fortunately, the stores that have managed to get back open (which doesn't include CVS yet so I really hope I don't run out of my migraine pills) still went 50% Halloween markdown regardless of the situation. So I bought cheap candy AND I'll get more on Sunday!
Still, I'm pretty bummed that the rest of the world has already moved on into Christmas mode and most of them don't even realize that New Hampshire got hit just as bad as New York and Connecticut did, because national news doesn't give two shits about NH unless something political is happening. FUCK national news. WE MATTER SOMETIMES TOO.
I wish I had something more cheerful to say... oh well. Now to plow through a billion journals before dad turns off the generator for the night....

Boo!
Posted 13 years agoSo we have a cat in the house again! My sister adopted her on the first of the month, the shelter listed her age as a year and a half but when we asked the vet they estimated somewhere between 8 months to a year because she has her adult teeth but they're still tartar-free. Her official name is Opal but nobody calls her that, my mom calls her Noodle because she's so scrawny and everyone else calls her Boo. Because she's like a Boo, she will follow you but stop when you turn to look at her and pretend she's not really interested in you. And she likes to get in the way.
Even though she's my sister's cat, she seems to have bonded with my legs and sleeps on them every night. Sometimes it's nice but she's had a cold ever since she came home and occasionally she wakes me up with machinegun-sneezing. (She's getting better though! Still sounds congested, but not sneezing nearly as much~) She's sleeping against my foot right now.
There are photos and videos of her on my tumblr which you should totally look at because she's tiny and adorable! And she makes cute noises. I want to get a video of her chewing on her puppy Nylabone, she loves to chew on hard things so we had to get her a dog toy since cat toys are all too soft!

Posted 14 years agoI know none of you give a shit about me and my personal life now that I'm not providing you with any porn, but this is my fucking journal so you can just go back now if you don't care.
Tomorrow we bring Ben, my only remaining cat, in to the vet to be euthanized. He developed a tumor in his only hind leg around the time Jerry had to be put down, and at his age and health there was almost no chance he would have survived any kind of surgery. He carried on like it wasn't there, but in the last couple weeks he's had more and more trouble using the box (we think it's too painful to defecate, he hasn't done so in 4 days now) and his chest heaves when he purrs. He also has started to eat less and less, and even though he still won't refuse food (especially treats, like a bit of croissant or some canned salmon) it's clearly not going far past his stomach. So that's it.
I have never lived in this house without at least one cat around. My parents had 5 cats when they had me, and when only one of those was left, we adopted Ben and Jerry. And now they, too, will be gone, this time with none to replace them, for the first time since 1974. Mom wants to be pet-free for a little bit, see if any of us have allergies that we've been living with, go on vacations without having to worry about cats being fed or getting their insulin shots or other meds. She doesn't know how long this will be, but as far as my sister is concerned it's too long--she's been throwing pretty much a non-stop fit for the last three days because mom won't let her adopt a cat with her own money and keep it in her own room.
I don't know what it's like to live without any cats, and I'm afraid.
And I don't want to say goodbye to my baby. Ben was mine, I picked him out at the shelter, he was exactly the kitten I had been hoping to find (mackerel tabby short-hair with double-paws) and he's always been the Cat Who Would Not Die, no matter what happened to him. Diabetes, cat acne, ear infections, pit bull mauling, amputation, tooth extraction, thyroid issues... I guess he just burned up all nine lives. Not many cats can say that. I love you, Ben. In my heart always.

Posted 14 years agoTo all the kind folks from this journal who were able to let me have another year and a half with my kitty.
It meant the world to me.
I miss him so much, but because of all of you, I was able to let him know how much my family and I loved him (except for my asshole dad) and we treated him like a king from then on.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Though I've spent the day in tears, right now they're not from mourning.
Nothing lasts forever, so don't you ever take a thing for granted.
It meant the world to me.
I miss him so much, but because of all of you, I was able to let him know how much my family and I loved him (except for my asshole dad) and we treated him like a king from then on.

First up is a Jax skin for League of Legends! These were included in every swag bag so I'm sure it's easy enough to find someone with one, but there it is. Claimed!
Second, at the Alienware booth I scored a code for a Need for Speed World starter pack and 1500 SpeedBoost (the in-game currency). I would have preferred a lanyard, but eh, what can you do?

I don't care how bad it looks, as long as you did it in MSPaint and it can be identified as an Oshawott! So if any video surfaces of a stupid girl in an Oshawott cosplay saying dumb airhead-y things THAT WAS ME BEING ALL "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON I'D BETTER JUST TALK AND GET IT OVER WITH"
but I got a Japanese Mantyke out of it, so whatever (even though, genius that I am, I forgot to pull the Exp Share off my Watchog before trading it away)
BASICALLY I HATE CAMERAS, THEY MAKE ME STUPID.

Gonna have SO MUCH FUN even though I don't think I'm gonna have a chance to try out the 3DS, my friend arrived in Boston this morning and has been texting me almost constantly, and he says the line is INSANE. I guess I'll just watch some DNF instead then!
Gonna bust out my Oshawott outfit for tomorrow, it's nice having a cosplay that works for both anime AND game cons! And I finally get to meet some of my idols and get hugs from them! SO EXCITE

WHY U DO DIS VERIZON
Posted 14 years agoSo I gave up on figuring out which cheap phone to get because they were all shit, and decided FUCK THIS, I'LL GET A SMARTPHONE. But because of my need for a physical slide-out keyboard, this left me again with only two options: Droid 2 Global and LG Ally. The Ally has a better shape than the Droid, a vastly better keyboard, and fewer complaints about battery life, and also it's half the price. So OK, let's go with that!
Just to make sure, yesterday I went to a Verizon store to see them in person, and I definitely preferred the Ally to the Droid. But we had to research plans and stuff so we went home with the intent of figuring out what the cheapest plan would be.
So today we decide I'd better get it now, since we're going to Tucson on Saturday morning for a week and having a fancy new phone would give me something to do at the airport. I've been playing Jewel Quest over and over on my enV2 for the last two years and it would be nice to be able to have something different for a change, right? So we go to a different Verizon store (because it's closer to home) and..... they haven't had the Ally for a few weeks at least. It's being phased out and replaced with a phone without a physical keyboard.
We ask the guy there if he can find out where the closest store is that still has the Ally in stock. The closest one is 20 miles south in Leominster (which got my mom to laugh because the guy obviously wasn't from the area and had no idea how to pronounce it), and the store would be closed by the time we got there. What about the store I was at yesterday, the one with the display phone? He calls them, they don't have any, and they won't be getting any more in.

CATCH: NO DATA PLANS
I do not frequently use my phone beyond the occasional call or text, or playing a game while waiting to be picked up from somewhere. I'm at home near my laptop much more often than not. So I can't really justify paying for a data plan I won't be taking full advantage of.
So baaaasically it's down to either the LG Octane or LG Cosmos.
What I currently have is an LG enV2, so the Octane just seems like it'd be a tiny upgrade and I don't really feel like it's WORTH it to get a new phone and lose my one lone game just so I can have a larger outer screen and rounder corners. But the Cosmos (even the Touch version) feels like it'd be a step DOWN from the enV2, as it has a smaller camera without video capability and I'd need a data plan for Mobile IM (which, while I don't use it all that much, is nice to have now and then).
So basically Verizon can go huff a dong.
Do any of you guys have an Octane or Cosmos? Should I just suck it up and find an extra $30 a month? Or should I stick with my enV2 and the one game I have for it (because games are expensive) that I've been playing for 2 years?

I've already got some concepts roughed out for:
--trying to peek into a restricted folder on my laptop
--watching my sister's betta
--peering around the side of my shelf giving evil looks at my anime figures

Please keep in mind that I am a girl raised on Nintendo (especially Mario) and I don't like FPS or things about real-life wars. Nothing against them thematically, they just seem kinda boring and not very pretty. I prefer colors other than dirt and smoke. Also I don't do sports or racing games. I like RPGs, I think. I have played and loved Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun, FFIII (DS) and VII.
