Been a while, huh?
Posted 3 weeks agoThere seems to have been... a LOT that happened when I left this place haha... I'm gonna start slowly uploading artwork I hadn't posted I'd made since I mothballed this place, there's a decent little bit of that. Also I MAY open commissions soon if anyone wants something, since tax season is looming closer and closer. Stay tuned!
Godspeed, Dragoneer
Posted 8 months agoI found out about this site's owner passing away right after it happened, and man... it's taken a while to process. I don't even know what to say. I admit I didn't know much about Dragoneer or their life prior to this, but reading all the news and context about how they've been screwed out of the medical help for their critical condition devastates me. So much of this has been said already, so I won't elaborate too much, but man! They absolutely didn't deserve any of this, and a lot of it can be blamed on the US's shitty healthcare system.
I just started working on art commissions last year, pretty much my first actual job, so I've been figuring out a lot about the world of taxes and what to pay, how to pay them, and where that goes. I'm happy to pay what dues I can, but what I'm not at all happy about is how a lot of honest taxpayers' money goes towards a healthcare system that actively fucks them over, and a lot of said people die because of it. I really do hope people are radicalized by this, because it's unacceptable on every level. Get your shit together man...
I can't say I've been on FurAffinity for very long. I only joined because a few friends were especially active here, and I've had small qualms about FurAffinity's site and choices in the past. But this is true of every website - nothing's perfect. I do know how this website's shaped a whole generation (or two, or even three) of furries over the course of these past few decades. In a world where tons of depressing events seems to happen every day, you need some form of escapism, and that's what I feel the furry culture has been for so many people. A lot of that is owed to dedicated sites like Dragoneer's to give these people a safe space where they can harmlessly express themselves, and my goodness, it's done a great job at that.
So many artists here cut their teeth learning their craft and helped others out doing so. Trades like fursuiting and merchandise manufacturing have been mastered, and ideas evolved into characters, stories, and whole worlds gifted creators have dedicated their lives to expressing and fostering. And all of this has culminated into a whole community of insanely talented people who have used their talents to bring happiness to others, and it all starts with a place where these people can feel free to harbor those gifts.
Dragoneer, wherever you are, I hope you know how influential your site has been on so many people, and take joy and solace in helping curate this wonderful community. It would be an insanely different place if this site never existed, and this is coming from a tiny artist who hasn't been involved in it or as knowledgeable for as long as other people have. I know everything here is probably the most cringey, clichéd shit to be dumped onto a journal post. I just get emotional really easily, and it's how I, among so many others, feel. Rest in peace man, and thank you for all you've done. I hope the afterlife treats you well.
A thank you to the rest of the FA staff for helping maintain this site for all of our enjoyment, and I hope you keep Neer in your hearts and minds as you keep moving forward, improving the site further and harboring the same safe space for furries as it has before for a good many more decades to come.

🐰🍁 Fall Commissions Now OPEN! 🍁🐰
Posted a year agoHey all! First journal post here - I wanted to say I now have fall commissions open to help pay college loans and balances and potentially get a new digital art setup, if anyone's interested in one! I have 12 slots for character art, icons, banners, emotes, and character sheets available. I will have the commission sheet posted on here shortly as I figure out how to maneuver this website. (haven't been on here much!)
If you're interested, please message me on here for inquiries, or overall let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thank you so much for reading, and please spread the word if you can! Happy September!
