Sunday, March 1.
Sam Wallace (Groundhog, G) here. Man, what a weekend this has turned out to be. It started out like any other Saturday afternoon, doing our drills and prepping for the big game against the Albany Alphas. After a friendly game of lightning, we were all set to buckle down our game plan when suddenly, Coach Kruester came in... all flustered like. "Hey, guys. Sorry to bring this on you like this, but..." He turned his attention to Friedrich Peschke (Cat, C). "Frieder, we need to talk." The coach kept mostly quiet as he and Friedrich left the gym. The rest of us looked on, wondering what was going on.
Later that day, Frieder dropped by the compound, looking rather dazed. "Hey Friedrich are you okay what happened to you out there?" asked Scott Paulichek (Fisher, F) in his signature drawl. Frieder ominously replied, "Guys... I've been traded." You would think that news would be devastating enough... but that was only half of it. "I'm... going to be playing for Albany." The room practically halted when we heard those words. "What?" "Albany?!" "Impossible!" "No way! There's no way!!" Everyone was in a bit of disbelief mode at this point. Our good friend and teammate, Friedrich Peschke, was going to play for the opposition! The very next day!! "Hold the phone," exclaimed Theodore Sanftner (Prairie Dog, G). "If you're going to the Alphas... who are they gonna dump on us?"
That answer came in the form of a portly lop-eared 5-year career baller by the name of Lance Wildfyre (Rabbit, G). From what I've heard, he's the 3rd best lapine in the FBA, right below Buck Hopper (Rabbit, G). Anyway, Lance and the Alphas had just touched down at Santa Fe Municipal, when he got the word from his agent. His initial reaction? "The Whips!? Really! ?!?!? Ugh..." At least he took it well. We didn't let this get to us too badly, either... eventually. "That does it! Enough moping around," said Wiley Twaddle (Woodchuck, G). "This is a mighty fine opportunity for you, Frieder. We should do this send-off right!" And so, the team treated Frieder to the best place in town for fish tacos and lobster. Godfrey Zindendel (Goat, F) made a toast to the top cat in the league. "Frieder, no matter where you go... no matter who you shoot hoops with... just know that you'll always be a part of us. Kudos, you big lug!" "Danke. Dankeschoen, all you weirdos!" cried Friedrich, trying not to get too emotional.
Finally, the big day has arrived. The team was introduced to our new recruit earlier this morning at the Coliseum. Lance looked pretty nervous as the coach introduced him and stuff. I stepped in to give the rabbit some words of encouragement, "This has been a pretty awkward experience for all of us, bunny boy. Just do me a big favor? Don't drop the ball! We have one butterfingers too many." All kidding aside, we made sure to treat Lance like family... or at least try to, heh. I should warn him about the practical jokes from Alan Chesuk (Moose, C) and even Trent St. Croix (Polar Bear, C). The pre-game ceremony was pretty extravagant in its own right, I hate to admit. The higher-ups had opted to let the trade be known when Frieder entered the Coliseum on one end and Lance came in on the opposite side. Both of them stood at center stage while our GM, Hugo Chavic, made his little speech and announced to everyone the big news live on national television. It was like watching the passing of the torch... Friedrich gave Lance a folded up jersey. Lance followed suit handing off a jersey to Frieder. And then the sparks flew as the two of 'em revealed their brand new colors to the world. The two shook hands and Friedrich made his farewell speech to the audience. "Thank you, Santa Fe! It's been a fun 2 years. Sie werden nicht vergessen werden! Dankeschoen, everyone!" There wasn't a dry eye in the whole stadium. Well... this is it. Time to make history or be history. With Lance Wildfyre on our side, this is just the beginning. Wallace out~!

Thanks for Another Great Season
Posted 11 years agoOn behalf of the team, thank you Santa Fe for making this a fun season. Looking forward to next year.
The Streak is Over
Posted 11 years agoWell, sports fans. We all knew this day would come sooner or later. After 3 pre-season and 5 regular season consecutive wins, the Whips met their match on Sunday, November 17th during their home game against the Texas Lone Stars. The team led a daring battle on the court, but in the end they came in just short of an overtime when TXS wiped them out 90-88. HC Paul Kruester (Male Coyote) had this to say... "I have no regrets over what happened tonight. Our guys really gave their best out there and I'm proud of each of them, especially young Friedrich Peschke (Cat, C). He's certainly making a name for himself when it comes to scoring big numbers out there."
Despite disappointment, the team banded together at the press conference after the game, putting up a small front to let the media know that all good things come to a close sooner or later. "It was all touch and go, really..." noted Mike Porter (Mallard, F/C). "We did best we could out there. Had a good strategy, but Texas' defense was equally matched. Somehow, I knew it wouldn't last. Of course, this is only the first month of the season, but that doesn't mean we will not perform less than perfect. The Whips are here to stay!" When asked how they will get through the shock of losing on their home turf, Porter wittingly replied, "Ask me that question again after we crash the Lone Stars' victory party. Drinks are on Vos." "HEY!"
So, thus ends a 5-game winning streak for SFW. Will they have enough momentum and spirit to move forward in the season? We'll know soon enough as SFW take on WPG on Tuesday, November 19th.

2013 Pre-Season Week in Review
Posted 11 years agoAnd good afternoon. I'm Finn Schuyler with today's week in review.
It was without a doubt the most breathtaking preseason ever witnessed as the San Jose Whips make a clean sweep winning 3 consecutive games. With the team in good spirits for the regular season, they've proven themselves a worthy challenge for their combatants. So far, the Whips are #2 of 18 if offense and tied for fourth in defense.
It was a game of skill and teamwork during their first game hosting the Bangor Tides. As noted from one enthusiast, the Whips had the best Offensive/Defensive ratings [while] the Tides had the worst. Among their best defense is newcomer Serhan Tevetoglğlu (Turkish Angora Cat, F/C). The best in offense? That honor went to resident powerhouse Victor Vos (Red Fox, G) and 2nd round draft pick Friedrich Peschke (Cat, C). The Whips beat out the Tides 105 to 77.
Sam Wallace (Groundhog, G) was thus far a no-show in day 2 against the Santa Ana Spectrums. The Digger played a lackluster 12.2 minutes, 0 for 2 with 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 turnover. From the starting line, Vos has done phenomenal. Alyssia Silverman (Red Vixen, G) and Michael Porter (Mallard, F/C) have been doing pretty good while Zindendel (Goat, F) and Chesuk (Moose, C) are about average. Chesuk raked in with 2 blocks in 85 minutes and The GOAT took in 2 block in 92 minutes of the game. Richard Maxwell (Deer, F) and Frieder have both delivered well, performing at the same level as Vos and Silverman, though with not as many minutes that would probably dip a bit more. Serhi continued his reign as the best defender on the team with 3 blocks and 6 defensive rebounds in his 26 minutes of play. Tony Boris (Tasmanian Devil, F) is 10 for 11 with 8 rebounds during his 50 minutes, but also brought in 4 turnovers and Micaela Ramos is also about average, though does have 3 assists with 10 minutes of play. The Whips take down the Spectrums 110 to 101 on day 2.
Their third game during day 4 at Las Vegas playing the Wildcards was a surprise within itself. Mitch Ruffcorn's performance left much to be desired, going 1 for 11 with very few assists or rebounds; his current PER being only 3.5. Though he did pretty well on rebounds and had half of the team's steals for the night, Lawrence Scott-Raynor (Mountain Goat, G/F) also isn't looking so good, but more from being a bit of a no show, going 2 for 6 in 29 minutes. Despite that, Tevetoğlu had the game's only double-double, with an efficiency of 18. Maxwell, the rumored player of the game, scored in an efficiency of 19 altogether and Ramos an efficiency of 17. This high advantage brought the Whips the winning jackpot against the Wildcards 104 to 96.
With the upcoming season underway on November 6th, the team spared no effort and wasted no time as they made preparations for the season opener. The mood was high as the teammates worked on their tactics and strategies during their practice session earlier today. We'll see how well these kids can keep up their winning streak when they go up against the Pittsburgh Keystones tomorrow night at Pueblo Coliseum.
