Posted 9 years agoI've been using Tolucian for as long as I can remember. It's never taken and it is something that's undeniably me. Or, at least it was.
I've started used Tobiyond as an @ on Twitter and I've grown really attached. It gives me the proper nickname, it's a pun, and it's still likely to be unused in most sites.
I want to try really dedicating myself to my art and suit making. Instead of trying to organize and clean out this account, maybe I should start a new one? Get a fresh start.

I've been up to quite a bit artistically, but it's all ended up on my tumblr rather than here. Whoops.

I got my first set of Copics and FELL IN LOVE. They're easily my favorite medium now and I'm slowly adding to my color collection.
I'm working on an 80 slot card holder that I plan to fill completely with traditional ACEOs before FWA. I'm at 20 right now.
Fursuit wise, the going is slow, but I got the test bodysuit for Melanie done today.
As soon as I get my machine's thread tension fixed, I'll sew that up and can move onto the actual bodysuit.

I finally decided to stop stepping around it and accepted that I'm transgender.
I've been genderfluid since I was 18, but I stopped having girl days at all a few months ago.
So. . . yeah. I go by Chip now and am a chubby dude who desperately needs to work out.

Posted 11 years agoI'm making some nice progress on my mate's suit for FWA. :D
Currently I have the feet and head completely foamed. They just need tape and fur. I had a minor setback when my bodysuit pattern got ruined, but that's been settled as well.
I'm also planning to make a pair of legs for Melanie that can accommodate These fabulous stompy feet I've started foaming. I have one almost done and I LOVE THEM. She'll be getting a new tail to help balance everything out. I'd like to refur her head, but I don't think I'll have time.
Anyway, that's how my fursuiting stuff is going. I'll be sure to post pictures when things get farther along.

Posted 12 years agoSo, you're wanting to purchase a head from me? Fantastic! I'm flattered that you have enough of an interest in something that I have made that you're considering purchasing it.
There are, however, a few things I would like to cover first.
- I have a dog and a cat. I am not letting them roll around on or come into direct contact with anything I make, but pet fur is very hard to contain, so I must insist that if you're allergic to dogs or cats, please consider that before you purchase anything I may have for sale.
- I am not currently doing payment plans due to the low starting price of my premade heads. If you feel that you have an extreme situation and desperately want a head, you may note me about the situation, but do not be offended if I still say no.
- I work through Paypal only. All payments will be marked as for a 'good'. I know some artists will take payment as a 'gift', but I would rather pay a fee than get my account banned.
- Shipping is generally to be paid separately unless otherwise mentioned in the auction. Feel free to note me at any time for a shipping quote on one of my auctions.
- Once you have received your item(s), you have a three month warranty of sorts. If the structural integrity of the head is comprised due to an error on my part (i.e. an ear falls off, seams pop, ect.) I will either help instruct you on how to fix the problem yourself or, for just the price of shipping, will fix it for you.
Again, this is for structural issues. If you roughhouse with your suit and it is damaged in that way, the warranty does not cover that. The same is said for you getting your suit dirty or lending it to someone who does not understand that suits are to be treated a certain way.
- Please be careful while wearing a product from me. I am still learning, so the vision and ventilation may not be the best in a head from me. Be sure to stay hydrated and have a handler who is not wearing a mask of any sort to help you navigate crowds at all times. I will not be held responsible if you hurt yourself or others while wearing my product.
- I am always open for questions or inquiries. Please, feel free to note me if you would like to discuss something.
All of that aside, I want you to enjoy yourself while wearing a product from me and I hope we will be able to do business soon.

Posted 12 years agoI've made a decision about my suit making.
I'm going to make a handful of premades to help pay for the materials for personal suits. This means I will be doing most of my experimenting on these personal suits, while using what I have learned from them on the premades.
However, I'm taking a special approach to these premades. I want to have a selection of species and types in my portfolio, both common and not. I've decided to go ahead and make a premade from each of the 'common' types. That is, a canine, feline, and pseudo-avian (gryphon).
My current plan is as follows:
Borzoi: in-progress
Siamese: in planning
Cutthroat Finch Gryphon: in planning

My main focus is on making these characters toony, but still obviously the species that they are. I have chosen species that have specific face shapes and patterning to help me have something to work towards. Both the Borzoi and the Siamese will have unnatural coloration, but the markings are based on real life markings of the species. I'm hoping to make the Cutthroat Gryphon mostly realistic in his markings.

I wanted her to have a big fluffy mohawk. FLUFFY.
Maybe I'll learn after FWA. Or at FWA? I don't know.
ANYWHO, that aside, the head is coming together.
All her pieces are cut out and I'm stitching some of them together tonight.
One ear is furred in what might be the most time-consuming method EVER.
I'm still excited to finish her hopefully soon.

I need to find someone who is willing to take a commission for everything BUT a head.
I like making heads, but I fail horribly at everything else.
I can kind of make tails, but that's really it.

Balaclava moving jaws!?

I've been fiddling with this moving jaw all night and it is REFUSING to work. >(
It's a foam on balaclava base and I'm trying the floating jaw method. I've got my elastic all done up like EVERY SINGLE TUTORIAL tells me I should, but it's just. . . not moving.

I really want this head to have a moving jaw and I suddenly envy how easy it was to do a moving jaw on Bird's entirely foam base.

Most of it has been boring stuff like work, unfortunately.
HOWEVER, I have been working on more exciting things.
1. I've decided to split up my Furaffinity and Deviantart accounts. I'll continue to post my fursuit and anthro-related art here. So, really, you won't see much of a change. I'm going to completely clear out my Deviantart, however, or start a brand new one. I haven't decided yet. I'll be using it for any human or otherwise non-furry art. I may also decide to practice cartoon styles over there.
2. I redid Chicory's eyes both to look less drugged/angry and to use the better buckram I discovered and used in Cedar's eyes. I promise you will get to see Cedar and Chicory together at some point. I'm still procrastinating on adding Cedar's second ear and giving them both proper necks. I'll get it done soon. Probably.
3. Bird is getting a makeover. I adore him too much to just let him go to waste, but he needed some serious love. I've removed his imposter oviraptor crest, ripped the felt off of his beak and redid his eyes to a taxidermy style. It's my first time working with tearduct vision, so it's a bit iffy, but he certainly looks scarier.
I also am making him into a halfsuit. I JUST finished the sleeves and I'm pretty happy with them. I decided to nix him having wings and give him awesome bear arms. He needs paws, feet, a tail and a pair of pants. I have a pattern available for the pants, just need to get some more fur for them.
4. I'm trying to figure out what head I want to plan for next. I have foam and a balaclava that I'm itching to try out, but I don't know what to do. I have a cosplay fursuit head that I want to do and I think I'll do that. I do want to use my gray fleece, though, so it may end up becoming a gargoyle. Who knows? I sure don't.

Gray Fleece Head ideas

I found this lovely dark gray fleece at Walmart, of all places, and promptly bought a yard and a half roll of it.
Now, I'm trying to decide what to make it.
I kind of want to try something that actually exists so I can work on making a head look like an actual animal.
Here's what I've been thinking:
- Rat
- Snake
- Dragon, but modeled off of a living reptile
- Shark
- Alligator/Crocodile
I'm definitely looking for ideas, though!
This'll be started after I finish the two partials I'm working on currently, but I'm in a rush to get those done by Megaplex, so the new head will be started relatively soon.

Posted 13 years agoMy mate and I found out today that we can afford to make a day trip out to Megaplex. :D We're pretty excited.
However, we don't really want to spend the ridiculous amount that would be getting our own room for one night. So, if any of my watchers have a space open for two people for JUST Saturday night, we'd be so so grateful.

Is selling characters worth it?
Posted 13 years agoAs most of my watchers may know, I love designing characters.
Seriously. Most of my free time is spent either getting more in-depth with my own characters or trying to think of new interesting ones.
I've seen a lot of different character auctions and sales, but I've never really considered doing any. However, it may help me feed my need to create while not overwhelming me with new character designs and making my existing ones get ignored.
My actual question here is if any of you think that's actually worth it. As I said, I've never run one myself so I have no idea what to charge or even how to go about it. Do any of you hold sales or auctions? Frequent them, perhaps? If anyone could give me their opinion or even any advice, I'd be super grateful.

Cheap Commissions

My mate and I are attending Furry Weekend Atlanta this year. The hotel itself is going to be almost $600 and we are a bit strapped for cash. I was thinking that I might be able to take on commissions to help with the costs. However, this has presented a few personal queries that I now pose to you.
1. Is my art a good enough quality to even take commissions?
2. Would it be better to take normal commissions or try for reference sheets which I enjoy doing?
3. What on Earth is acceptable to charge? x_x
As far as charging goes, this is what I was thinking:
[Example] - Head or bust sketch: $2
[Example] - Full body sketch: $5
[Example] - Digital Chibi: $2
[Example] - Traditional Chibi: $4
[Example] - Head or bust digital: $3
[Example] - Head or bust traditional: $6
[Example] - Full body digital: $7
[Example] - Full body traditional: $11
[Example] - Reference sheet with two views: $15
I want to help however I can with costs and since I lack a job, this seems like the best way. I just need to know if I'm fooling myself, wonderful reader. You will not hurt my feelings by telling me I'm not good enough or my prices are too high. Trust me.
