- When did you start drawing?
I clearly remember drawing things that weren't just scribbles when I was not quite three. I got a note sent home from the preschool because the teacher thought my favorite subjects at the time bats and witches were "disturbing." I was a Wizard of Oz fan, and we had bats living in the old house behind our house.
- Which hand do you use for drawing?
Right, but I manipulate the page and sometimes erase with my left.
- Which is easier to draw - male or female?
Both are the same, for me.
- Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?
Both are the same, for me.
- Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?
Neither.
- Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
Neither. 3/4 view is sometimes a little trickier.
- What do you have problems in drawing?
Inspiration and energy to draw.
- What do you like to draw?
Anthro wolves are my favorite.
- Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
Both. I used to work in commercial art, which almost killed my love of art as hobby.
- Where do you start drawing from?
Depends. There's usually some specific, single thing I'll want to come across in the piece, so I'll do rough, faint outlines. I usually start with a sketch of the figure(s), then flesh them out, then work on background or landscape.
- What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
Good: Having a clear idea of what I want to draw from the start.
Bad: Adding too much detail to small structures like hands and eyes, resulting in a lot of erasure.
- Any tips for coloring/shading?
Nope. I'm colorblind.
- How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
Depends. Usually, an hour or two for a simple piece, followed by an hour or two retouching on the computer. I had one piece of art, of an anthro cheetah, that took me weeks to finish - too many spots!
- What music do you listen to while you draw?
I don't. I rarely listen to music at all, and never when I work.
- How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
The ideas usually happen instantaneously, fully formed. Unfortunately, they don't come very often any more.
- Your favorite drawing utensils?
My 0.3mm mechanical pencil that I've had for about thirty years - I've been using it since I was a kid - with hard lead. Followed by 0.5 mm mechanical pencil with soft lead. After that, I'd say a good eraser (not just for erasing - also good for shading). My fingertip, for shading and smudging. An eraser shield for adjusting details, and Photoshop for retouching and final edits.
- Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
Grey. I'm too colorblind to work with colors.
- Your favorite style(s)?
More realistic, less cartoony styles. I tend to like bold lines and high-contrast.
- Are you satisfied with your current art?
Nah. I'm never satisfied, though that doesn't keep me from being happy with it or deriving pleasure from it.
- What kind of artist are you aiming for?
Hobbyist.
