TF idea: Fox disease
New pandemy. The fox disease changes humans into foxes in a month. There is no cure and no vaccine.
Recommendations are: If you contract fox disease, take off your clothes, lay in a bed and do not be afraid of fever - 38.7 is normal for foxes. Do not take paracetamol to drop it, it will make the transition process painful, with a big chance of fatality. Call an ambulance only in cases of serious deformity during transformation. Do recommended exercises daily to switch your body to its new quadruped configuration. Do not force yourself to walk on two legs while changing - severe bone dislocations could occur. Be prepared for some pains when your muzzle grows and your teeth are replaced. When your fur starts to grow, there will be an itch, do not scratch yourself, use a bath instead or a wet towel. Do not lock your doors. Get rid of foods dangerous for foxes, especially chokolade. Most of the time, you would not need food because your body grew smaller. But prepare for a lot of water to drink. Stay home at least four days after changes are finished, after that period you are free of infection. Wear some badge on your neck to recognize yourself. You will be able to speak, but you need time to adjust to your new tongue and mouth shape. After you exit for the first time, immediately visit the nearest vet for vaccination. Do not try to contact wild foxes, they can detect you are the former human and attack you. Do not try to live in the wild without a special rehabilitation course. Although your brain will shrink too, in most cases your mental abilities and memory would not be affected.
Reality: mind was affected more commonly then radio says, only 2% chance to stay intact, about 60% is total loss to fox-level IQ, other are varying degree, although memory is intact. Yes, most retain ability to speak with high accent after monthly training. The form is total animal, without traces of human except cognitive and voice skills.
After a year no humans remained, although all wild foxes are affected too. (yes, some of them gain human IQ) As a side effect they gained a human lifespan. They have to rebuild civilization using their now small furry quadruped bodies.
