Reflecting on 2023 and plans for 2024
2023 has been quite a year for me and many others. So let's take a look back on it, so that we can look to the future as well.
Real life
Of course, outside of internet, I lead a life of my own. I eat, play games, read books and study. This year, I'll finish my university studies. So, that means in 6 months, I'll have earned the highest education diploma. But, that also means, that time has come to write a scientific paper for bachleors degree. Of course, it's not due next week, but it's not something I can procrastinate upon.
I'm trying to say that I'll be putting a bigger focus on studies, than artworks in these coming months. This doesn't mean that I'll stop posting art, I'm just giving a heads up that I might not create as many as I have so far.
Opening Patreon
Initially, I opened up Patreon a couple of months after I created this account, but after further inspecting my work, I decided that it's too soon for that. Now, I came back to it last year in october of 2023, and properly started it up.
I was quite overwhelmed, to be honest, as I saw some users unsubscribing, but then I told myself, that even a one follower is something to appreciate.
There's still so many things I have to learn about it, such as how often I should post, what should I offer and so on.
I for one hate paywalling content, so yes, that means that almost everything I post there, will be posted here, after one (1) year of exclusivity.
Why exactly one year ? I have 2 reasons for that -
First reason is that posting a Christmas themed artwork in the middle of summer seems very... counterproductive. I've learned that being on time for trends and current events is something that helps out a lot, so that's something I'll do.
And the second reason - I have 3 tiers of supporting - tier 1 that costs 1 euro, tier 2 that costs 5 euro and tier 3 that costs 10 euro. I believe, that if people pay for either one of these tiers, it's only fair if I give the subscribers their worth of money.
But at the end of the day, you don't have to be a Patreon to support me. Your faves, comments, even commissions is something I immensly appreciate !
Going digital
In november, I bought myself a drawing tablet for fully digital drawing.
I picked up really well on it, so thankfully the adjusting period went pretty fast. Ever since then, I have not looked back on paper and inks, as I did up until the purchase of the tablet. There's a lot more flexibility involved while drawing on it, so that gives me a chance to flex my creative muscles lately.
The only downside is that it pretty much triples the screen time I spend per day, but I suppose such is life for the creative endeavors like this.
Comics
I also published my first longer comic of 80 pages, called "The Power Corps".
It was a passion project with me and my friend, where we discussed how cool it would be if one of us secretly was Power Girl. Naturally, being this crazy as I am, I sprung to action and kept developing it.
But, as the projected 2 months for linearts of all pages streched out to 2 years for full coloring, I was afraid that it simply wouldn't capture the interest of followers. 2 years of work and what if all that fails ? Regardless, I kept at it, and finished it. I told myself, "even if this flops, you did it."
And I was glad to see the interest in wanting to see the continuation of that !
Fun fact, I wanted this comic to be a Patreon exclusive, but as I mentioned, that plan was thrown aside, since I didn't know what the reception would be.
In any case, that gave me ideas to adapt a TF TG story by Chloe-Cobblewatts, but I won't share any more details on that yet ;)
TL;DR - in the coming months, I'll be focusing on my bachleor's degree paper, so artworks (personal works, commissions, collabs and Patreon works) might come out at later dates than usual.
I think that's all on my blabbering about the last year.
In any case, thank you all for following me !
Stay tuned for more stuff !
