Changing my fursona's name to "Gin"
So this is something I wanted to do for years now.
When I first joined the furry fandom and made my fursona, about 2015/2016, I wanted to have a fox fursona.
When I scribbed together my character I wanted to make a fox version of myself. Or well, an idealized version. Blue eyes, long blond hair, glasses. All like my real self just more vibrant and cute. Even when I changed my real haircut from open hair to ponytail, my character followed, and even got the same accessorizes as me.
When it came tp naming the created fox, my problem with coming up with good names showed.
I just named him Jan.
Which is my actual name. Fitting at the time, considering he was supposed to be a fox version of me, but also not very creative and a little confusing.
The upside was that I never had a problem when someone from the furry fandom only knew my by Jan, as that was already correct.
But over the time I grew a bit unsatisfied with this.
I had no problem with people calling me Jan at fury meetups and such. It is my name after all, and I do like my name. But it was always more difficult to refer to my fursona, which I had to refer to as the Fox, or Fox-Jan.
Then, as I started to play Dungeons & Dragons more, and I used my fursona in a game, I decided to give him a different name, do distinguish between me in and out of game.
I went with the name Gin Zarakan.
A first name still similar to the original, but sounding a bit cuter.
And of course being a reference to an alcoholic spirit, which became a running gag in my D&D games, with all of Gins family having alcohol names as first names.
Even more fitting at this point, as I got into mixology and cocktails in the last year.
I have been referring to the fox as Gin Zarakan for over 4 years by this point, I just never really bothered to change it anywhere, as all my art here is named as Jan.
But at this point I greatly prefer Gin as the name for my cute foxy.
So going forward I will slowly change up the descriptions and titles of my submissions here and change out the name Jan for Gin where it makes sense. That will probably take some time, but I still plan to do it.
For all that know me on here, you can still address me as Jan, I even might prefer it, as it is my name, after all.
But Gin is fine too, but it is in first place the name of the silly blonde fox character.
TLDR:
My fursona Jan the fox is now called Gin Zarakan, but you can still call me Jan.
