Part 1 of a three-part piece I'll be working on for Anthrocon this year.
When I think of enduring relationships, Reis and Marcus are still always the characters of mine that come to mind.

It's probably not that hard, anyway. Not to mention milk chocolate is WAY less toxic than dark due to the dilution of the theobromine, so even if it were natural cacao, it'd still need a bit to cause damage.
I mean, come on. Reis has done WAY worse to his body with drugs, am I right? :D

All dog chocolate in their world is prolly carob , seeing as how it's the most well-known (and far as I know, only) "dog safe" chocolate substitute. Only it's not recommended to give carob treats to our real-world doggies, because they start developing a taste for it, and can't tell the difference between their safe "chocolate" and our real unsafe chocolate >_>;; BUT! Anthro dogs, obviously, would know better, so a moot point. XD
By the way the world is way ahead. They have already developed dog chocolate. There is even a wikipedia article about it. (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hundeschokolade) Sadly it's only in german. So you maybe have to use an online translator to read it.
While chocolate does contain substances that are toxic to dogs, they are not very potent (and very dilute) and any sufficiently large canine would have to eat several pounds of chocolate to get sick. Since these guys are basically human in size, the amount they're eating will have no noticeable effects whatsoever.
...well if you're gonna be REALLY nitpicky then Marcus would definitely be dead since he drinks coffee - caffeine (and other xanthines, especially the theobromine found in chocolate) are extremely toxic to canids (and much of order carnivora since they lack the metabolic pathways needed to efficiently metabolize these chemicals. Consequently, they get a lethal caffeine buzz which kills by cardiac dysrhythmia due to hyperstimulation.
No, actually. The effects of chocolate on dogs is exaggerated to the point of fallacy, some sources saying "As little as one pound of the average milk chocolate is enough to cause a toxic reaction in a twenty pound dog."
As a point of reference, most 150 pound people will throw up if they at a full pound of the average milk chocolate

The trouble, tho, is that all dogs react to the toxin differently. Some are even ALLERGIC to the chemical, meaning even accidentally getting into -one- Hershey Bar could be a death sentence if they aren't rushed to the vet ASAP.
It's flat-out a TERRIBLE idea to try and desensitize people to the dangers of chocolate to dogs, because it literally is a game of Russian Roulette with your dog's life, that there's absolutely NO reason to play. Especially with as many non-chocolate/carob treats as there are out there for dogs that ARE completely safe. Why even take the risk? Sure, maybe your dog's extremely resistant to it, but maybe they aren't. Do you really want to play those odds with your loved one's life? I sure wouldn't. =/
Hell, I wish commercials and articles would exaggerate MORE, so as to make SURE no one is ever stupid enough to let their dogs eat chocolate (or not rush them to he ER if they find out they're gotten into some). If you tell people "eh, it's TECHNICALLY toxic, but they'll prolly be fine if they eat a small enough amount", you open up a really terrible Pandora's Box of people dangerously experimenting with just how much chocolate is a "safe" amount for their companions, just because they like the idea of their pets being able to enjoy the same things that they do. It's JUST not worth the risk. Too many dogs have died to that stuff for it to be worth it.

I keep comming back to this for an awww moment. I just can't get over how sweet it is! Little Marcus sharing part of his candy bar. <3 Everyone else seems to feel that these two are the best couple ever. And I can't disagree that I don't love Marcus to death already! But my top couple would honestly have to go to Puck and Ransom. I mean it's pretty much a fact that those two need each other to simply surive! And that they have been though (to this point) a lot more than these two boys. Don't get me wrong though... I love these two's relationship and really hope it'll last through the test of time. So, much love to Puck/Ransom and Marucus/Reis! :)
