I'd imagine if she was trying out a new trick such protection would come in handy. If she went into a tailspin, was falling too fast, or anything that'd keep her from being able to recover, she could just move herself so that her padding is straight down as her hooves go up and *POOF*! Safe landing and ready to go for another try. :)
