This is really spectacular. Not only super technically skilled in all ways, but there is art all over the place and it's increasingly rare to encounter an image where you are immediately stuck with a sense of "Whoa, I have not seen anything like this before." I felt that, just now. Thank you for conceiving and constructing this awesome art piece and also Trace for commissioning it!
It's really good. :D

Thank you so much for the work you put into this -- it came out better than I could have imagined!
The one thing I love most about it is you captured the sort of ambiance I really imagined. The lighting from the surface and the ship is astonishing! It's very powerful and gives the sense how an ocean could just swallow up anything that feel into it and send it to a watery grave. It gives me the chills! :)
Looking forward to seeing what you do next! Thanks again!

You're too kind!
Actually, this particular painting I used greyscale only to plot out the rough values at the beginning, then went straight into color and continued solely with normal layers. I mix up techniques all the time, whatever I feel works best for the image I'm working on ^^.

Absolutely love the way you got the fur to look floating and wet, really impressive attention to detail there! And the composition is just top notch, wow, really draws you in, and the light and bubbles makes your eyes travel all over.
Ahhh such artistic goals right there <3 Wooonderful job!!!!

... I can hear my heart beat. xD You're welcome!
So I'm trying to see how you do lightning and notice there're two light source in this piece - fire and the sun. When I look at the light from the fire, I notice the char's watch doesn't reflect too much light, and then eye balls, then the blade, and these air bubbles. I'm just thinking when the light hits smooth surfaces like eye balls, it should be reflected a lot more than it is in this piece (,which is amazing of course!).
Well, I can be wrong because the image still isn't large enough...

Ahh, I see!
I'm not trying to invalidate your criticism, but I'd like to explain my decision making in this (because they were conscious decisions) :3. The watch does not reflect the light of the "fire" because the way I saw it, that light would not reach it. He is leaning back slightly, so the upper side of his hands and arms are angled away from the light of the fire (hence why they are darker than the rest).
Eyeballs are wet surfaces, and in air they would reflect this kind of warm light with a specular highlight (fire is really not a very strong light source) like so - https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3203/.....611d0596_b.jpg . In water, this effect is weakened. Look up any references of people with their eyes open under water, and you will be hard pressed to find one that has specular highlights. This is why I lit up the iris but kept it subtle - water does not carry light as far as air does.
The blade is angled towards the fire with it's sharp edge, not with the side. Additionally, the side of the blade is not actually shiny metal :). It's a diving knife, which tend to be coated in a dark matte shade - http://www.oceanmaster.com/TacticalTanto.jpg http://dansdiveshop.ca/wp-content/u.....g-titanium.jpg .
The bubbles I will agree with you on. I didn't spend a whole lot of time working them out, so that was my mistake ^^. I hope this explains things a bit! I really don't want to seem like I don't like feedback or disagree with your criticism - it's perfectly valid, but some of these are decisions I made for a reason and I felt the need to explain x3.

Ohh my, just thank you a lot for taking your time to explain it to me. No matter I see you as both a friend and a teacher, but I understand if you didn't reply because these are just comments under your posts. So, I very much appreciate your time! It warms my heart. :'D
Well, that's why I think the blade should shine when it's facing towards the light source. That's exactly what I was talking about. However, since you say it's underwater and in fact I don't believe that I yet understand how light travels underwater or even in general (I'll get there by practices!), I really can't say much... the most I did are just based on my observations.
Sorry if I sometimes expect to see some perfect arts from you, that's only because I very much like your arts. Thanks again for everything!
