A simple message. A simple act of kindness.

People can become sad, depressed, or unable to find anything that makes them happy. A good friend, who monitors the other's well being, makes sure to at least make them try to crack a smile. This can be as simple as making funny faces to attempt to make them chuckle at the cost of your own stupidity, or go out and do something nice for them, showing them that there is something to smile about in their gloomy world. Be that friend who will do what they can to put a smile on a sad face.
