Tatiana, a brown bear of First Race descent, was a featured singer for the Rain Island Artist's Syndicate from age 25 until her retirement in 1977 at age 65. She had a splendid ("belting" one critic called it) alto voice, and was a fixture in the summer arts circuit for many years. She drew large and admiring crowds for her performances.
Here she is performing for radio Station ZYPR, Seathl, with Hugh Dennis and his orchestra. Dennis was a raccoon who was constantly a butt of jokes about his height.
Her voice was compared favorably to that of the American vocalist Kay Starr.
Tatiana was the soloist for the radio performance of the Four Fools in Apple Pie Hubbub, first broadcast on 6/3/37.

Way back, I wrote a story called Mission of the Raven that touched on it a bit. The captain of the ship was a black bear who was basically a sharecropper's son and lorded over by other furs at a Virginia tobacco farm.
The scene, and another where he beat up a US Navy captain, used the term 'blackfurs,' and there was much discussion back and forth.

Heh....I'd wondered why there was a raccoon tail in that pic when I sawa it on
Technicolorpie's page, and I've only now figured it out.
