Buck's a young dog who has lived his life well off thanks to his parent's wealth, as evident by his girth in his tailored suits. During a party to celebrate his arrival into adulthood, he overheard other party-goers talk about him behind his back, saying he knows nothing of hard work and that he was going to gorge himself into gluttony. He wanted to prove those naysayers wrong so after the party he decided to leave the comforts of California and head north to Alaska to make a living for himself.
