A portrait of an American Lioness. I wanted to do cave painting type things in the background, but I decided not to risk it cause i don't know what the hell i'm doing, lol. She has native american inspired jewelry, but I made it all up from my head. Couldn't find anything that fit her to reference.
Eep, another crappy scan. The paper warped after using water color, so that dark spot up there isn't dirtyness, its a shadow. The drawing is actually 9x12, which didn't fit in my scanner. I need a new one. Eh. All artwork looks better in person anyways unless its digitally altered to look more pleasing.
I'm rather inexperienced with wet media. I bought some watercolor paper awhile ago, and decided to try it out on this. This was my first REAL attempt at a watercolor, colored pencil piece. The whole thing was done with a first layer of watercolor. The background is sloppy, but the salt effect finally worked out for me properly. I just need to learn how to control my brush/colors better.
I also should have put some darker colors on the watercolor base to prevent as much grainyness as possible, since the paper is very textured. Its almost as though the scan brings this out even more. Could very well be!
Anyways, this was a nice experiment. I like the technique, and hope to get better at it =/ , cause as of right now, this piece screams NOOB at me. Any tips are welcome.
I really want to draw other things besides portfolio stuff -.- , geh. 13 more pieces then I'm free.

lol, thats really kind of you. Thanks XD
I'm not amazing, but I did work hard to get where I am now. It just takes a lot of practice, and to be serious about it. Practice anatomy every day, for example. Get yourself a sketchbook and maybe a reference book with lots of nudes in it and copy them. Then try and remember the proportions and jot down notes for yourself so you can memorize it all and do it on your own later.

If i can do it, you can too.

How did I miss +fav'ing this??? This is wonderful! I love the texture, too! I know some people prefer a very smooth look, and use only board, but I love the textures of canvas and watercolor paper myself. :) Plus, the texture fits the "ancient" feel of the piece perfectly, IMHO.
