Not just equator countries. Here in California it's hot and humid while normally only being dry, and we're at the same longitude as Japan.

True but, take into account they're also an island, surrounded by water on all sides an unlike Cali where it's very limited snow in certain area's (Lake tahoe and further north) Or Lake Arrowhead/big-bear mountain. They get a LOT of snow
