[Alt] D&D: Vigilis (Campaign 2) (SFW)
The lad! New campaign, new character development, new look! (and a more detailed look at his gear)
(NSFW alt here)
Overall concept: Undead paladin serving Hoar (god of Vengeance). He was once an embalmer and a follower of Kelemvor (god of the dead), but was killed in cold blood and honored as a martyr by the death clergy. 100 years passed and he found himself resurrected against his will (turned into a creature called a Nekroparion) and has sworn revenge upon the cult responsible. Hoar heard his prayers and granted him a holy symbol, the silver coin which floats in his eyesocket. This gives him the illusion of an "ordinary" human appearance.
Most minds aren't prepared to cope with the horror of inhabiting a skeletal body, and Vigilis is no exception to this. For him and those like him, sensations are fleeting and unsatisfying; even pain doesn't last, and fatigue doesn't register even though overexertion is still possible. It's common for skeletal Nekroparions to be unpredictable, or to be overcome with feelings of malaise brought on by the disconnect between mind and body.
Patch Notes:
-the brigandine is made from the hide of a young green dragon that the party brought down together!
-he has gauntlets of Ogre Power, which he had re-engraved with Hoar's likeness...es (in my mind, it's important for paladins to have heraldry that denotes their allegiance, and I thought it'd be cool to do it this way)
-he has his same longsword and shield; the sword has been serrated on one edge and silvered, and he has named it Bonesaw (though the name hasn't really come up at all)
-he has a new interest in knives, and has gotten some custom daggers to start his collection: "Penance," which is modeled after a surgical amputation knife; and "Mercy" which is a misericorde designed to end things quickly.
-After some convincing from the party, he bought a scythe which Patina tinkered up to have a more inconspicuous glaive mode. He adores it, and gets a lot of use out of it (and is very grateful to Patina)
-After a nasty encounter with his sworn foes--the Anthroparions--he met a fellow revived martyr of his old faith named Euphemia. The golden coin was a burial obol of hers, which was knocked from her mouth during the fight. He has vowed to return it to her one day, and it stays floating in his eyesocket for safe keeping until then (it's weird bullshit but I don't care >:D)
-After being killed and revived again, his skeleton bears some new scars: his lead vertebrae is burnt black, his bones are more gray than before, and there's a huge crack under his left eye. His illusion also reflects the damage, as well as the scars of being struck by holy lightning. He has since developed an unusual reverence of thunderstorms.
complicatedcomplicatedcomplicated why do I always do this. Fuck. :'>
