...It's always been hard for me to express in words what music is to me. It's not just a past time, it's more than a passion, it's not exactly a lifestyle, it's... something more than all that. It's a method of expression that surpasses anything else in terms of emotional intensity, limitless in potential and able to be so intricately detailed, and able to convey the most complex of messages and emotions in such ways I could never even hope to convey otherwise.
And from a young age, it's bewitched and captivated me, enthralled in its rapturous whirlwind of sonic energy... recharged me in ways nothing else could, and more often than not it resonates deep within my being a glorious feeling of what I can only describe as euphoria. No drug or experience otherwise could compare to what it does to me, and I'm sure some of you listening and reading this can relate on some level. Thusly, I've wanted my whole life nothing but to produce music that makes people feel the same way. I live for feelings like this, this... melodious release of some inner happiness that might encourage or inspire someone else.
Porter Robinson recently released his music video for "Look At The Sky", in which he describes the cycle of inspiration. No artist works alone, we are all inspired by others and their works, and they live on through us. "I'll be alive next year" refers to how we live through our works, and this cyclic idea of shared inspiration through our works is what drove me to create music in the first place.
"Keep Going" takes one sample from another song of Porter Robinson's, "Mirror". It talks about how sometimes the most overwhelming obstacle in our process can be ourselves, and the demons we fight everyday. But he has a spoken verse at the very end that I replay in my head nearly everyday:
"Sometimes, the inner voice is encouraging: Calling for you to run those final few yards; You're nearly there, keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going, it will all be ok in the end."
...We're all here to do something on this earth, perhaps to find our purpose or to help others find theirs, it matters not. Dark times are abundant in these years, now more than ever we have to realize we are not alone. We are not purposeless, we are beings of light and energy borne into existence to illuminate the universe!
I don't know if I'll ever get to play this for a crowd of people like I've always dreamed, I don't even know if this song will make a difference to anyone. But it certainly has made a difference to me. So to anyone out there who feels the same, I encourage you: Keep going, Keep Going. Keep Going, KEEP GOING!
It will all be ok in the end.
