Brewery: Toppling Goliath Brewing Co.
Name: King Sue
Style: New England IPA
Origin: Iowa
Bottle: 16 oz can
ABV: 7.8%
Appearance: Cloudy yellow, like a banana chiffon thats gone slightly off.
Pours: smoothly with a 1/6 inch of foam.
Smell: I got a strong sense of pineapple and green grass.
Taste: The acrid sharpness of hops combined with the bitterness of what tastes like they’re using entire citrus fruits, rind, seeds, piths, and all. Not surprising given they mention Citra hops. (- music wise I’d say try something along the lines of a salsa or possibly merengue inspired Narcocorrido tune-) However this is pleasantly toned down by the banana-like taste of the mouthfeel which is...surp-
Mouthfeel: -risingly smooth for a double India Pale, almost creamy even, but harshly or sharply contrasted by the hoppy bitterness. Almost like a chocolate in a box of Whizzo brand chocolate*s with their combination of smooth and delicate containing a contrasting and unexpected interior flavor. Though not the Spring Surprise or the one containing Lark’s vomit, this is one of the safe ones to sample and would undoubtedly be the first one snatched up. Think of it as the lemon Creme in white chocolate.

Rating: 8.35 This would make for an ideal after dinner dessert beverage, especially with fish, or a meat-and-fruit dish, if you’re looking for something more palate cleansing to finish your meal than sweet and heavy.

As soon as you mentioned grassy, I thought yep there’s an off flavour involved.
The first hops that came to mind were mosaic and fuggles, although the article from Beersmith lists more along with potential causes that are hop proxy issues.
I would definitely be interested in checking it out sometime. For now it is going to be a collection from the Bandit Brewery.
