Okapi (Okapia johnstoni) are members of the Giraffidae family alongside the more familiar giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis). Like the giraffe, okapis have long prehensile tongues that they use for reaching forage (as well as cleaning their own eyes and ears!). Though the okapi is much smaller than the giraffe, both species’ tongues can be up to 18 inches long.
