
Last month a river otter was seen and documented in the Detroit River for the first time in 100 years. It follows a similar first-in-a-century otter sighting in Lake Erie National Park in 2019.
Since otters often act as "indicator species," these sightings offer hope that the past few decades of clean-up efforts in these heavily polluted waterways are paying off.
