It's been 7months since I started drawing and I'm really proud of the growth I've been making. I've been studying Moth Sprouts style as a study trying to work out my own style. I'm going through artists that inspire me and trying to grab design motifs I can incorporate and combine together in unique ways. Soft cross hatching, expressive faces, collars, clothes, I think too one of the greatest things he did was posting this link of his new studio. Which shows many of the collections and influences, cultural influences such as taxidermy, birds, folk art, Americana illustrations, indie animations. It just shows how coherent and deliberate I'll have to be to create an aesthetic that I'll feel comfortable with, instead of mere imitation I'm inspired to one day create my own private world of aesthetic and inspiration.
I've always been so cautious about dimensions and getting the process so scientific, especially since the chicken anatomy studies. One of the good things that has come out of it is that I'm more aware of ribs which is seen in the design. But Moth Sprout's style plays with form and abstraction, allowing for expressive body movements, contorted positions has really taught me alot. As well as his fur patterning is very distinct and adds a dynamism to the design. I hope I can be more confident as well to let the design not be as detailed in the future. I tend to overdetail when I have doubt which leads to a more muddied appearance and wastes time when the linework should be enough.
