Lyla was always seen as the "oddball" among her family. She was always drawn toward things otherworldy and mystic. She tried practicing subtle forms of witchcraft but it never worked. She considered herself a "goth girl" and made a habit of making that clear to whoever looked down on her or her peers for it.
While looking for something to buy her girlfriend, Alex, for an upcoming birthday, Lyla stumbled upon an odd new shop that seemed to appear from nowhere. The storekeeper, an old bear with an eye patch, allowed her to browse his wares; the place full of odds and ends that tickled Lyla's fancy. In the end, he suggested a strange pendant with the symbol of an eye with a bolt of lightning across it. He claimed it would bring "great change" to Lyla if she had faith in the "old powers" of the world.
After taking it home and seeing how good it looks on her, Lyla noticed a word written in a long-dead language she was unable to read. She ignored it and instead rested for the day, listening to songs from one of her favorite foreign bands, Aesir.
After speaking one of the random lyrics aloud, Lyla was struck by a sudden burst of magical energy that came from the pendant itself. She was changed into a more powerful form imbued with the essence of some ancient magical being, making her stronger, faster, and more powerful than before. Putting these new powers to the test, Lyla realized she had been given an incredible gift. But when she returned to the store to speak with the owner about its origin, both he and the store itself were gone; no one had ever heard about it before or since.
Now, carrying this new power, Lyla decides to use her abilities where and when she sees fit. She took the name of the band that helped give her these powers, learning the name had a deeper meaning: "godlike". Very fitting for the sorts of things she could do. Stopping crime? Sure, but she's no hero. If anything, she just enjoys the feeling of having all this new power to use as she wants. At times it can be a bit addictive, but sometimes with great power comes great fun, right?
