Fate of the Ice Elves
"Under the winter's bound throne, shall a prince be born. He shall be baptized in blood and salt, his hair as white as snow such as the land around him he shall call his own. His demeanor will be kingly and mighty, his sword born of the old lands, his birthright. All manner of beasts and creature will bend knee to him. His subjects will call him friend, and his enemies will call him master. He will be a prince for five elven years, and a king for ten. He will will lead a mighty host, once broken by man's axe, into battle against a shadow's might and shall reign forevermore as the ruler of the greatest of realms of ice and snow." -Prophecy of the False Dream
When the elven lands were destroyed, a powerful ruler and his people made a desperate bid to go north, landing upon the shores of a rocky and hostile land full of Beastfolk. Their own slaves and servants escaped, becoming wild and free men while the elves were despondent from the losses of their civilization and betrayal of their once thought flawless nobility. Yet, one elder amongst them stood out, he and his son who rallied the people and would found an empire which would stretch from the coast to the far northern lakes. Conquering and subjugating others, the ice elves adapted to their surroundings, surviving invasions of men and beastfolk alike, butchering the shadow worshippers and bringing an end to the domain of powerful kings who stood against them. The Ice Elves prospered in their new homeland, rebuilding much of what was once thought lost, driven on anew by a prophecy which was said would grand them greatness and imperial might across their realm forevermore.
The the Wendigo appeared, and shattered them in pitched battle. The Wendigo defiled their cairns and raised their dead, with ashen urns being emptied and binding once long gone souls into the funeral clothes of their people. These beings became known as the Ice Wraiths, bound entities who served as the soldiery of the damned as the Marches brought a brutal and final end to the elven empire, butchering its people utterly and subjugating their undead forms. In a final act of humiliation, the prophecies prince of the False Dream was killed in battle first and raised into undeath as a general of the March's armies, used as a foe which battered his people to near extinction. This dark and evil being became known as the Silent King, a terror who would one day usurp the role of the Marches from his own masters and lead the 3rd Wendigo March on Rosarug, nearly obliterating the realm of men.
The Ice Wraiths laid dormant for hundreds of years in their purged cities, and like the Yul'Wendigos which proceeded them also gained autonomy and freedom despite their undead forms. Much like how they had once lived in life, they could only imitate in death. Ice Wraiths retain much of their old empire through their new 'king's' command of the Marches, regaining their sentience over time and eventually even new, and darker abilities. Famed for their corrupted versions of elvish magic, they had transformed their once funeral robes into dark armor, becoming the wielder of powerful swords and enchanted artifacts. These ghostly cities replay their once precious society and lives to retain their sanity in their new grim reality, often referring to themselves as 'elves' and even trying to make visits to the Havens. Yet, like all minions of the Marches, all will come back and march again as soon as war is called, bringing down the ghostly hosts of a destroyed people upon the peoples of Kevica.
