Welcome to the third day of my Furnal Equinox 2023 summary, told through submissions! I'll be doing my usual post-convention summary by sharing a photo a day from my time away, while recounting the events of the day on which the photo was taken, exactly two weeks ago:
This morning began with a continuation of my plan to further induct Ursus into the ways of the Canadian - that's right, we went to Tim Horton's for breakfast! After bumping into Heather and Sandy on the way there purely by chance, we got our doughnuts and hot drinks and returned to the room to polish them off over good conversation, including about our plans for the day. With a rush of sugar and Canadian goodness, I spent much of the rest of the morning and early afternoons doing my rounds on staff - which included a run to a nearby health shop to pick up some extra face masks for Con Ops - and floating around the Den.
It turned out that having had quite the boost from breakfast, I didn't really feel the need to have lunch. That, coupled with dinner plans made for later, ensure that I took breaks only for water throughout the day. In the early afternoon, I took over guard of the door to the Dealers' Den, making sure that everyone had their badges on entry and that everyone abode by the one-way system of entry and exit to and from the Den. It was actually quite nice to have a seat and see so many people going in, and I didn't have any problems through the whole of my time sitting there. The biggest issue - which I judge to be less than a problem - was people coming out through what was meant to be the entrance, though I can't say those people were entirely at fault because (1) the order was different from the day before which was bound to cause some confusion, and (2) when you see a doorway that says "EXIT" above it on a large flowing red sign, you can't help but assume that the doorway below it is a way out. I even got to see
ManuKoa in suit, and share a few brief words of conversation! ^__^
I came off shift about four hours later, staying on a little beyond the closing time for the Den due to a need to keep my doorway clear, while a medical emergency was ongoing. I do hope the person affected turned out alright. I headed back up to the room to drop off my belongings and enjoy some more of Ursus' smooth strumming before heading down to the lobby for those aforementioned dinner plans. There, we met MatthiasRat, Fulminar, Cobalt, and Alganbord for an evening adventure like no other... :D
As the more observant of you have gathered, our destination for dinner was that old favourite of Toronto; The Old Spaghetti Factory! If you're unaware of the delight that is The Old Spaghetti Factory, then I highly encourage you to check it out if you're ever in Toronto. Not only is the food absolutely stunning, but the surroundings are magnificent. What you see in this shot is just one wall of this massive, crazy establishment. We started with the bread, I moved onto a wonderfully-fresh salad to start, then onto a classic spaghetti and meatballs before finishing with a mouth-watering Spumoni ice cream, all washed down with some lovely Canadian pilsner, and enjoyed over great conversation.
By the time we left the restaurant it had begun to snow, so we trudged our way back to the Westin after an evening well spent, in good company, in a good atmosphere, and with good food. Ursus and I retired to the room for a musical end to the day, before turning in for the night.
Hope you enjoy!

I'm afraid I don't, but what I can tell you is that it's large enough for there to be a vintage carousel and streetcar in there, and for you to be sat in such a place as to not be able to see either of them. :P
If you're ever in the area, I would highly recommend. The starter and dessert come included in the price of the entrée, and for the quantity and quality of what you get, I'd say it's very reasonably priced. :)

Yes -- you went to The Old Spaghetti Factory...very good! I recognised that wall as soon as I saw the thumbnail among my new submissions. I LOVE that place!
I lived in T.O. for a while back in 2002-03, and that was my favourite place to go when I could afford a night out. It was part of my evening if I was going to see a band I liked at The Horseshoe Tavern (my favourite club in town) or perhaps another legendary Toronto venue like the Silver Dollar, The Rivoli, The El Mocambo or Clinton's.
Dinner and dessert with a few friends at The Old Spaghetti Factory, followed by a cab ride with my friends in a Cadillac (I always specified a Cadillac when I asked for a cab) to the night's chosen club for a few drinks and some music; The Skydiggers at The Horseshoe, Neko Case and Her Boyfriends at The Rivoli, Handsome Ned II at The Silver Dollar...the list goes on.
Fun times. Thanks for the memory jog, my friend! As always, it's been great fun reading your reports of your latest adventures.
I just may see if I can manage a visit to the con next year; it would make a good excuse to visit T.O. again...I haven't been since 2009.

Oh goodness, I can't say I've been to any of those other venues! If they are still open, I'd love to stop by. And I'd have loved to have been driven back to the hotel through the snow in a Cadillac. :D
It would be superb to see you for an FE weekend! Hugs would be on the house. ^__^
