we managed to go camping in Maine during mosquito season. My mother woke us all at daybreak as she'd tried to take a shower and ended up covered in mosquitoes. Not even running shower deterred them! so we got woken up and went on our way, to a hotel. so much for saving money by using camp sites!
Reminds me of the story of Mississippi River skeeters. Folks would let the skeeters poke toothpicks and when they got all swollen, the folks would whittle boat paddles...
