The Fortune
By Lonelyrider
Burly James takes his beloved to a fayre and spoils her rotten with gold and attention, where the two recieve a touching card reading that stirs at their hearts, followed by a somber warning regarding a lady James treasures.
James LightningSword and his smaller lover Lonely strode hand in hand through the last fayre of the season, heated by bonfires as winter was almost upon them, and the astronomers were predicting a very long one; an ice age, in fact. Lonely pulled her faux fur coat around her and James slipped an angel wing over her, seeing she was chilled; being an enormous burly guy, his wings, like the rest of him, were very warm.
"Thank you, darling. I'm so glad we got to come today, but I'm surprised you didn't enroll in the joust and fighting contests, I know how much you enjoy them, and you're very good at them, as well." Lonely piped sweetly.
"Mmmm, me too, to be honest, sweetheart. I guess I just wanted to spend more quality time with you, sometimes I feel I spend too much effort on my meathead hobbies and not enough with you." James admitted sheepishly, Lonely gave him an endearing look and he grinned big at her and blushed, rubbing his hair shyly; he liked when she looked at him that way.
"You're always so sweet, Jamesy. But don't fret my love, I don't feel neglected at all." Lonely assured him, giving his beefy hand a smooch.
"Oh...I'm so relieved baby girl...but...oh...do you feel smothered? I think....I know I make Clove feel like that sometimes." James blushed harder, toeing the dirt shyly and looking down, clearing his throat. Lonely shot her cherished man a sympathetic look.
"I...think it's very sweet, how attentive and caring you are. As you said my dearest, you enjoy your own hobbies and free time too. I like the way you are, it's beautiful." Lonely admitted, stealing a quick kiss and stroking his bearded cheek reassuringly, James purred lowly in delight and gently pulled her closer to him, grasping her neck in his huge hand and laying a deep and tender kiss on her mouth, she shuddered and enjoyed it, feeling him literally sweep her off her hooves for a second.
"That really helps...thank you, baby." James sighed, eyeing her with open adoration.
"You're most welcome, my sweet beau. Clove is just extremely independent, it isn't that there's anything wrong with you, honey. Plus, based on what you've told me about your interactions, she likes you a lot, she just hides it." Lonely comforted further, James beamed boyishly, his broad chest out and wings fluffed, and Lonely smiled kindly at her lover. His stomach growled and he felt his toned abs and apologized sheepishly.
"Oh, listen to me, so sorry."
"Aww, poor thing. Let's get you something to eat." Lonely followed her nose and found a turkey leg vendor, and James eagerly gave the man a little gold pouch and bought one for his girlfriend and two for himself, and they sat on a log and watched the bustle and cheery music of the fayre as they feasted on the hot meat.
"Mmmm, good. Thanks babe, I was starving, not sure why." James said between mouthfuls, blushing and apologizing again, Lonely couldn't quite finish her turkey leg, conversely. "Here babe, full?" James asked, she nodded.
"Yes, please do, thank you! It's so good, but my appetite has been a little less lately. You go ahead honey." Lonely handed him the half eaten leg and he hungrily dug in, demolishing it in a few big bites and accidentally letting out a virile belch, James gasped, blushed and covered himself with his wings.
"Oh my God, I am so sorry!"
"Oh, don't be! Guys get a pass, am I right?" She teased, rubbing his brawny shoulders, he chuckled and uncovered himself a little, as she took his bare turkey leg bones and chucked them in a refuse bin.
"Ahh, much better. So, my beautiful girl, what shall we do next, huh?" James asked happily, sitting with his legs spread on the log and gently resting his big hands on her full hips affectionately and openly a bit possessive.
"Hmmm, so many fun options! I....oh honey, why look." Lonely had started to head to a puppet show for the kids, which James smiled at fondly, as she knew, he'd always had a soft spot for children, but something a little more exotic had caught his girl's eye. James let his smaller girl lead him gently by his arm and wondered at the wagon covered in ornate curtains, a gypsy vanner horse grazing nearby.
"A fortune teller, how fascinating, sweetheart." James mused out loud, the two watched as another couple emerged from the wagon, the woman looking happy and giggling and the man looking miserable. The gypsy man, who was dressed for the fayre as a court jester, turned and saw Lonely and James towering over her next to and behind her and waved, approaching them.
"Would you like your fortune read? 20% off for a couple's reading today."
James smiled lovingly at his girl seeing her excitement, and took out a big bag of gold, which made the gypsy's eyes go wide, plopping it into the smaller man's palms.
"Oh honey, are you sure? I don't want to make you feel like that guy coming out!" Lonely teased, but he knew she meant it. James guffawed good naturedly and gave her another sweet, gentle kiss on her mouth, both of them purring lowly.
"I may be macho, but not so macho I can't do something nice for my girl. Besides, I'm truthfully a little curious myself. Don't you read the cards, honey?" James asked. The gypsy man sat them down in his caravan, with big James barely fitting and having to stay low, his wings looming over all three of them as the gypsy shuffled his 4 decks.
"Oh, you read? This will be fun." The gypsy said.
"Yes, yes I dabble, not as well as you, I'm sure." Lonely laughed humbly, James and she smiled warmly at each other and held hands, as the man sensed it was time to lay the spread of tarot and oracle cards and lay them all out in front of James and Lonely, flipping them all fast, Lonely gasped with wonder and admired the beautiful artwork on all the gypsy's cards, as did her man.
"I like this deck you used for me, very manly." James approved.
"Yes, it's literally a man's deck. My my...what a reading...yes, very positive...very cute. First of all...did you two know you are twin flames in sacred union?" The gypsy man asked, indicating several cards from the wands suite. Lonely smiled kindly at James and nodded at him and the gypsy, as James looked a little confused but cheerful.
"I suspected, yes. Oh, truly? It doesn't surprise me, how lovely." Lonely sighed, grasping her arms and batting her eyes; James eyed her with open attraction and fondness.
"I uh...am not sure what that means, but it sounds good." He said.
"Yes, good sir. Your girlfriend is familiar with the concept, she can tell you more later. But you are lightworkers, in essense, she is the divine feminine and you, the divine masculine. You've been sent by the divine to help heal this truly troubled world we all live in. Congratulations on achieving union, many flames never do." The gypsy said.
"Oh thank you!" Lonely gasped, she leaned into James happily and he put a fond strong arm and wing around her, looking proud as the gypsy went on.
"Oh my...there's more. A lot of positives for you two. I see a wedding, a happy future with much wealth and a marriage that is nearly free from strife."
Lonely gasped and sniffled, touched, squeaking and covering her mouth, James was doing a poor job of hiding his own excitement.
"Really, now?" He asked, his voice hoarse with emotion betraying him, and he looked Lonely over again with that loving, proud and openly possessive stare; it was clear he liked what they were hearing, as much if not even more than she. "What uh....else does it say?" James pushed, leaning in eagerly, Lonely felt him lace his fingers with hers and she gave him a kiss on his cheek, getting three back, she giggled and blushed happily. The gypsy man smiled at the couple.
"You're the most cheerful two I've read for all day, by far. Ahh yes. I see good fortune, wealth, as I mentioned, long lives together and good health. Finally...keeping in mind that the cards read current energies, which are subject to change, in most cases...you, miss, will bear him several strong sons, and a daughter as well. It's hard to pin it down, but I see more than 2 children, for sure."
"Oh...children?" Lonely gasped, her eyes shiny and trying not to cry, feeling moved. James couldn't take his eyes off her; he didn't mean to, and tried to break his gaze, but he was too emotional.
"Yes my lady, the cards definitely foresee a family here. A rather happy and healthy one." The man said, looking over the cards one last time.
"Oh honey...several strong sons! How cute, huh?" Lonely asked him shyly, giving him a bashful peck. James eyed her intensely, stroking her face softly; his wings quivered all over, betraying the depth of his feelings at their fortune.
"I can't think of anyone else I'd..." James started to gush, to admit how he truly felt, both their eyes shiny and holding each other's hands in a snug ball, when the gypsy interrupted him.
"Wait...one word of caution, the only one I'm seeing here....to be truthful. There is a woman...with long dark hair, and dark wings. You care for her deeply, the cards are telling me..."
James listened intently, his breath a little shallow nervously, still holding Lonely's hand tenderly and pausing to gaze at her with utmost adoration, and the two listened a little worriedly as the gypsy flipped a few more clarifying cards. "As you sense, this woman is good at heart, but she has demons in her midst, both hers, and the company she keeps. The cards are warning you to be careful with this relationship to the winged woman. She doesn't intend to, but she could very well inadvertently become your very downfall." The gypsy placed a card showing a man impaled through the back and dead by many blades. Lonely gasped, grasping her necklace worriedly.
"Oh honey, the ten of swords." She gasped breathlessly.
James snapped out of his romantic daze toward Lonely and leaned in towards her and the reader curiously.
"Oh my...is...is that bad, sweetie?" He asked her, his grey eyes big and trusting, naive. The gypsy sat quietly, knowing Lonely, since she read cards, knew the answer, the fire of his candles and light of his crystal ball flickering eerily on his face.
"That, good man, is the card of ruin."
The gypsy spoke solemnly, and Lonely and her beloved shot each other a worried gasp, holding hands tighter, as the gypsy looked on with a serious expression.
