There's a Furcon Happening? - Furnal Equinox 2024: Friday
With this much fuzz in one place, it can only mean one thing! ^^
Here is my long-overdue summary of my wonderful weekend at Furnal Equinox in Toronto! Day by day, I'll be posting my experiences to accompany a photo taken on each day.
Woke up slightly later this morning, my body adjusting to the local time zone. Very generously, the con organises a staff breakfast on the Friday morning, of which I was happy to avail myself. Not for long, however, as I had my fill (which after last night didn't take much!) and heading over to the con space to prepare for the opening ceremony.
After some deft international diplomacy - i.e., convincing an external security guard that no, really, I am staff like it says on my badge and could I pretty please go into the ballroom to make sure our Guests of Honour have seats available - I procured said seats at the front of the hall, and greeted our guests as they arrived. The ceremony went nice and smoothly, with sea shanties and respectable effort made on West Country accents.
Furnal Equinox 2024 was now open, and so I headed upstairs to help our guests get settled into the Dealers' Den, where all three had tables set up. A run to Tim Horton's was made, and with guests happy, I fluttered around the Den for a bit, catching up with old friends and admiring the work of some of the new faces in the Den, this year. In no particular order, it was delightful seeing
heatherbruton ,
sandyschreiber ,
xenotropos ,
s00t ,
kindle_wolf ,
catmonkshiro ,
mothmonarch ,
anyare ,
nicnak044 , and so many other lovely talented people! ^__^
After a light lunch, it was time for the 'Meet the Guest of Honour' panel, an opportunity for con attendees to get to know our guests better and ask any burning questions they might have. The room only got about half full, if that, but with some prepared questions on my part and some good questions for the audience, all seemed to go well. With my staffing responsibilities mostly done for the day, I set about milling around the con space, photographing suites and sending the shots to them. I found quite a bit of enjoyment in it at Scotiacon, as not only does one get to see the suiters at their best, but so do the fine folk inside the suits, who need not go chasing after shots of their own OCs! :)
After making sure the last panel for the day was sorted, I met up with AvianInvasion and his partner and together we headed out for dinner at The Fox. This being their first time in Toronto... and this being their first time to really unwind since arriving... they were eager to enjoy some local brew and poutine, which we got in abundance alongside our main meals. A quick walk back to the hotel, and following a call with a good friend, it was off to bed for the Shep.
Hope you enjoy!
