Kind of you to say. And you are correct.
TL;DR: Gryphons are descendants of an era when genetic engineering had been commodified and democratized to such an extent that you could levy a hypersapient AI to help genetically design your own pets. Breeding and showcasing these pets became an international event on par with the Olympics. The most creative, beautiful, interesting, or utilitarian designs would win awards and be canonized as an "exemplar" species which opened the door for breeding and selling. There were, of course, regulations, protestation, and controversy. Not everyone saw this democratization and commodification as a good thing.
After an apocalyptic event in the year 2100, hypersapient AI used whatever genetic plans were available to them in hopes of repopulating vacant environmental niches for which there was no/too little biological data. Several species of gryphon made the cut for their resilience and adaptability to the new order.

I really like that bit you made in a comment above of these creatures being genetically designed from scratch. My character Jasper does something similar in his world when terraforming planets. I'm glad there are kindred spirits out there that think along these lines ^^
These creatures are rendered with such beautiful, vibrant colors I didn't think possible... you definitely have inspired me with these pretty creatures!

Your random little life forms are beautiful, exotic and very very charming.
They give me a LOT to work with as far as fuel for coming up with interestingly new little life forms for the RPG game I run with friends, as to help give color and more substance to the background and beyond within the realms of imagination between us all.
