For my 14th entry of #Smaugust I drew Vermithrax Pejorative from the movie Dragonslayer.
Which I had no idea was a Disney film. I haven't seen this film since I was a kid I should give it a rewatch sometime.
Vermithrax might be the most obscure dragon sofar as most of you probably haven't seen dragonslayer, even I've only seen it once as a kid. This film along with The Black Cauldron kinda got sent to the shadow realm by Disney and wasn't available for a long time so vhs copies were pretty rare.

If we're taking live action practical effects then Id agree that its the most impressive live action dragon in film. But Id Argue that Draco from Dragon Heart is the best Dragon in film.
But I think your correct, Vermithrax is both Guillermo del Toro and George R. R. Martin's favorite movie Dragon and probably plays a big role in how dragons are depicted, the dragons in Reign Of Fire are also based of Vermithrax. The other reason is that film makers and audiences are obsessed with making things look real instead of feel real. So filmmakers use wyverns because the four legged classic dragon is too fantastical for audiences to believe is real, its also why they wont touch Asian dragons. nothing against wyvern style dragons I still like them but their reason for picking wyverns are kinda dumb, you wouldn't do the same to other fantasy creatures like a Griffin lol
