I'll be totally honest here - I was intimidated by the prospect of working on this one.
It's been years since I'd done any real painting in this semi-realism style, so this one was refreshing to work on. I wasn't really sure how I'd go about it, and actually spend a good amount of time floundering about trying to figure out how to start! Once I got going though, that's where I started getting into it and enjoying the process.
It's also good to have a finished piece that I can consider a portfolio piece as well *nod*
I purposely went for the over-exposed look for this one, and even played about with the focus for some added depth of field. I wasn't quite able to replicate the same look for her lips as I had in my sketch (in the scraps) but I think the overall image came out quite nicely indeed.
It's not perfect, but I'm actually pleased with this one :)
Media:
Photoshop CS2 & many anime tracks.
EDIT: Fixed a few things that were bugging me, and touched it up a little more with the lighting. It's subtle but it's there.

Warm Leilani is warm ^_^
I was going to paint it all on one layer, but I ended up doing it over a few different layers since I was still trying to figure out how I'd do it. All the skin was on one layer (the lips and eyes were seperate until I was happy enough to merge them down), and the hair, inside and outside of the hat, and the dress each had their own layers. I just painted all the shading straight into each one.
I used a few touch-up layers though, like some for a more orange glow, some for the bounce light around her face and arms, and another for some rosiness to her cheeks and shoulders.
Once I figure out exactly what I'm doing, classes will (maybe) open (probably lol) :D

Haha! Yeah, it's pretty rare that I'm posting drawings of humans online these days, isn't it? ^^' I really enjoyed working on this one though, since it was something so different from what I've been doing recently. The guys at work didn't realise this was mine until I told them!
