The three of them continued to live at the facility, inseparable from each other. They ate, played, trained, and eventually slept together. Finally, the coordinators decided that, despite the terms they had signed under, the dogs couldn't be split apart for adoption.

"Perhaps we could donate all three of them together," one of them suggested.

There was an assisted living facility where several elderly patients lived with dogs. Each of the dogs had an owner, but all of the dogs were fed and tended together, and given plenty of exercise and room to run around in.

Rocky was happy. He got to be close to a human caregiver and bring them joy.

Howie was happy. He got to be with his dog friends and run around free.

And Russ? Russ was always happy.
