I had a really vivid dream about zombies last night...very scary and realistic, but adrenaline-pumping like an action movie. Most of the zombies were your typical falling-apart-with-decay reanimated corpses, but at the end I got cornered by these...mega-zombies. Rapier4 called them dread zombies and I like that name for them. Unlike the other decaying corpses, their desiccated flesh was pitch black and kinda charred-looking and they wore heavy stone pendants around their necks. They were unstoppable and inescapable. I thought it would be fun to try to paint some scenes from the dream, also experiment with some texture brushes.
This was pretty much the finale of the dream. Right after this it basically tackled me and bit me and I turned into a zombie. :P

As much as I want to just stare at the image of the zombie and the description of your dream, the thing that I keep focusing on are those BUSHES. When I zoom out they seem so natural but when I look close they are just A few lines. Did the dream end when it got you or did you have a sense of losing control?
Reminds me of a nightmare of how my whole family were zombies with red eyes, me and my sister were getting out of the house from the backyard, there was an opening in the backyard leading to the sewers, my sister was the first to go in an I was nearly the last, I got caught by my zombified brother an soon I saw myself get eatin alive

The stone pendents are actually powerful magical artifacts that keeps the soul from leaving its mortal container. Their skin looks black and charred because cellular metabolism has stopped and necrotic byproducts have begun building up in the skin, however the magic that binds the soul to the corpse prevents any bugs or bacteria from eating the flesh away. Once moisture leaves, the skin becomes tough and leathery, stretched over the skeleton like a tanned sheath.
You actually slept long enough for the zombies to turn you into one of them? Usually nightmares end like right before that stuff happens. .A.;
Zombie Mery would probably be like halfway between "uuuugh what is that" and cute though. I dunno. :3

Yeah, not only did the dream fully end there, I had time to start a whole new unrelated one where I got to fly around and stuff!
Floppy-tongue missing jaw...yeah that would be grody ; ; Zombie-merygryph would have to be like...mangy in a cute way, with a perpetual oAo expression as she searches for brains (or grains, her poor birdy brain can't tell the difference.)

Like 80% of the time I have a dream that I can remember, I have one or two other unrelated dreams the same night myself. I dunno whyyy.

It's a real nice change to see something a little more gritty, scary, and brutal instead of the usual sunshine, grass, flowers, pastures, rainbows, and dog bollocks you get on FA. :3c

Weirdly enough, no...I remember feeling myself changing, my mental faculties fading...I got up and started wandering along with some other wayward zombies looking for victims. Then that dream pretty much fade-to-black ended and another unrelated one started (in which I realized I was dreaming and took the opportunity to go flying). :o
If you read the description of a Draugur you'll find that your dread zombies match them to a T :3

Seriously, everyone I know has had very negative dreams lately... You and zombies, me and nuclear explosions, one of my friends and car wrecks, my sister with shades taking over the house... I think I'm the only one who lucked out. I successfully mauled the cast of Twilight before the nuke hit. :|
Funny.. I've been having more frequent dreams about zombies. Not so much like this. But everyone has their own perspective of how it's going to happen.
