3 days a week, 5 hours a day.....

I am now on outpatient dialisys, and am in the process of being but on the list for a kidney transplant. For the forseeable future, I will be getting outpatient dialisys 3 days a week, for 4 to 5 hours a day. Right now I report to the dialisys center at around 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I don;t get home until around 8pm. It is keeping me alive, and it is supposed to make me feel better. So far, it has been an frustrating and exhausting experience. It is uncomfortable, the needles in my are are painful, and I have to keep my right arm still throughout the whole procedure. I am rght handed, so there isn't much I can do. I try to read, until my eyes hurt. I listen to music, podcasts and web radio, but I just can't relax. And when it is all over, I am wiped out. It takes 24 hours to recover from it, and then it's time to go at it again.....

*hugs tight* Im so sorry Panda that you have to go through this. Emerson Collie just had a kidney transplant too back in July. I hope they can find a match for you soon. If you have any questions about transplants you can ask me and Emerson might also talk to you about his. Its been almost 20yrs since I had my liver transplant.

I'd like that. amd especially like to hear about Emerson's experience, and maybe talk to him. The dialisys place has wifi, so whil eI am there, I can SKYPE. Do you know if he uses SKYPE?

Agreed. Though i did not know him in life, i will mourn him in death. He seemed like a nice person to be friends with.

My friend Savaaha (above) knew him much longer then I have.

I was able to talk to him at MFM 2010 and he was nice. Very down to earth kind of guy and he will be missed.

Yeah I'm doing good. The only down side of it all was that it took close to four months to recover from it. But other then that, I haven't felt this good in years.

Well I kinda did show it. I started having health issues at the end of 2008. And pretty much in the 2008 - 2011 time range. I did very little in suit. I couldn't be active insuit because I would get worn out with-in the first five minutes wearing it.

I should be more active in my suit then ever before. I no longer feel like I have chains holding me down.

So this coming MFF. It will be an all new me there.

And yes, I agree. It is a cute suit. I've had it for five years now and I'm still happy with it. Still looks brand new too!

When and how did he die? I was wondering if you know. Its a little mortifying to see this since I was only born with one kidney meaning I only need one good hit to the lowerback and the same fate may befall me if I can not find a transplant in time or there is a problem with me getting what ever that machine is called in time. I never knew this man, but he seems to have been a beautiful person in life based on what I have read.

Well shit. *hugs you tight* If there is one teeny, tiny bright side to this, at least the doctors are getting off their fucking asses and getting you onto the list for a kidney transplant - something that really has been needed for awhile (no matter what they say). All we can do now is hope it's not a long wait. :( Looked for you on skype the last few nights but got no answer - next nights off is Tues/Wed on next week, so will try to get you then....

I hope they find a compatible donor really soon. I was frustrated having to go in for my heart problems over the past dozen years, but it seems like nothing compared to dialysis. I hate needles, and every time I went in, they'd do another IV. I just didn't go in so often as you have to. Luckily, they seem to have fixed *most* of my problems, though I have an implanted defibrillator inside me now. I wonder if there is any way to get a portable dialysis machine. It would still be a nuisance, but being able to get the treatment from home could be less of a hassle, if that is even possible.

Portable, or home dialisys is possible, but it would require my "access point" to be changed to a catheter, which has it's own issues, including haveing to be re-done every so often, and more prone to infection than the "fistula" type access I have now. Basically, what I have now is safer for me, if less convenient. But I have really good doctors now, and I am confident that they are tiking good care of me. Hopefully I will get a transplant and it will all work out.

It is good that they are taking care of you. I'm sure that a kidney will become available for you. If only this could have waited another ten years, as they'll almost surely be growing parts like that by then.

I still remember the lady on dialysis in the movie, "Star Trek: The Voyage Home." The doctor gave her a pill, and a short time later she was excitedly saying, "the doctor gave me a pill and I grew a new kidney." I wish it was actually that easy.

One of my last memories of you, was your filling up the hallways of MFM 2012 with animal balloons. It seemed like a parade of them flowing from your corner of the lobby area, dozens and dozens of them bouncing down the halls. It was good to spend that last con with you, old friend. You gave us all some very good memories, and we're gonna miss you, PG.

I know where weren't close in fact I barely knew you. I only got to talk to you in person once and that was at MFM 2011 and only for a short time. I'm sad to hear of your passing but I know you've moved on to a better place where you're no longer in pain or suffering. I had a lot of fun working on the commissions you got from me and I hope they at least brought some sort of happiness amongst all the pain and frustration of your health issues. I still feel bad that we didn't have time to do those revisions you wanted for the last reference you commissioned me for but in the grand scheme of things, I suppose that doesn't matter anymore. :(
